PayPal charged back Unauthorized payment

Hi Everyone,
I put a luxury item for sale on eBay, since it's a very unique product so it was sold just less than 24hrs, the deal was perfectly fixed, however three months+one day later, the buyer, suddenly opened a dispute on PayPal with reason: unauthorized.
Then PayPal charged back the money in buyer favour, because I can't proof the parcel was delivered to the buyer even sent with tracking, I realized that the Auspost just keeps the tracking information within three months only.
Thinking that a credit card is your personal belongings! in some cases the buyer can do everything they want and the seller just bitterly accepted it!

Proof of shipment is irrelevant, there is no defense against 'unauthorized' disputes as it's related to CC chargebacks not if the item was sent. You need to lodge a complaint with the Finance obundsman, Paypal just sides with the buyer because they're scared of CC companies.

PayPal's seller protection protects sellers from unauthorized transactions. The trouble is OP didn't keep proof of shipping.

Paypal don't follow their own rules, I can tell you that having been a silver power seller. Once CC troubles comes in Paypal will do everything to get paid, and the short end of the stick always points to the seller not the buyer.

Yeah, + this, just contact finance ombudsman and they will back out. Paypal is only good for buyers.

Go to the FIO. I've had several issues with Paypal where it was clearly in my favour but they sided with the buyer. All resolved with paypal making a 'one time exception'.. several times now.

Paypal is a dodgy company, but nowadays people tend to trust them too much. (both buyers and sellers)

  • i had a similar situation. in my case buyer said he hadn't received the item.

the kicker was that the buyer left positive feedback for me which stated he had received the item.

paypal said that sometimes buyers leave feedback by mistake (WTF!!) even though the buyer said he received it!!!

I emailed the buyer a couple of times and nothing.

i had no proof of delivery….paypal ruled against me.

then 4 or 5 of that a&%holes buyers started to leave negative feedback stating they hadn't received their items but he had been quick to demand payment.

I pointed out to ebay that he seems dodgy and asked if he had claimed non-receipt of items but obviously they stated that they couldn't say due to privacy reasons.

  • I am a buyer disputing with paypal at the moment. Paid for item, 3 months later still haven't received it. Because the seller wont answer Paypal and have closed their linked account (or so i was told after I declined to let them record my conversation) Paypal is saying that I must give them more time.

Unfortunately I paid out of a bank account not a CC.

    Live and learn

  • When you sell something expensive ($100+ in my opinion), it is worth getting a signiture on delivery for a few extra dollars.

    • I think it's better to get insurance instead of SoD. If the package gets lost during delivery, there's no guarantee that Paypal will release the held money back to you, so it's still better to protect yourself with the insurance instead of SoD when it's lost in transit.
I think SoD is more useful when the buyer claims that the package was not received but the tracking shows delivered, though it would still be useless somehow as no one can prove that the signature is actually the buyer's.

PayPal is good for buyer but not for seller. Unfortunately that's the way
