  • Looks like a good christmas present for my dad!

  • Can hardly find a store in Canberra that stocks them!

    • found any?

      • Bunnings have plenty. Just go there :)

  • Here's the product page:

    http://www.belkin.com/au/p/P-F7C043/

    • Good deal since already on sale while the product page says - "This item is coming soon ".

Does this thing make wemo products?

    • +2

Its kind of a Raspberry Pi for dumb people.

      • +1

To further elaborate, you could do a WHOLE Lot more with a RPI with a Wifi/bluetooth Dongle and a Relay.

        • +1

          Designed for a different market.

For the price this is a good entry point into this field. With the unit assembled, tested, & neatly housed, interfacing with other Weno devices out of the box, operated & programmed via an app - you won't get those other boards with these features for this price.

Downside is a much more limited input / output, adaptability of adding other modules, & level of programming, but a good starting point for this price.

Users of Raspberry Pi won't be impressed by this unit, but Raspberry Pi isn't a consumer level device sold in Bunnings or DS.

Was curious, but will consider the Raspberry Pi instead.

        • @Infidel: Oh, I Agree completely about the "different market" thing.

Has anyone tried Bunnings to see if they will beat it by 10%?

    • I know my local was upset about this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/223757 (so we bought 2) but not a bad idea….

      • Please post Bunnings receipt

      • would you have receipt to post?

        • Sorry for the late reply, the wife bought it, I need to search the house for her receipt,
she just showed the pic in the original post from her phone….

    • +1

Yes! I bought two this morning using OP's receipt. With the price beat they come to $22.94 ea. I'll happy post receipt when I work out how (Longtime lurker, first post).

      Edit: here's the image. http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/174401/35719/wemo_bunni…

    • Just price matched for two from Bunnings Kirrawee.

The service assistant was impressed at the deal and checked the stock at surrounding stores for us.
Rockdale, Warrawong and Nowra have three each,
      Kirrawee had one more,
Caringbah and North Wollongong have zero.

      My receipt: http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/63644/35733/img_2015121…

Hope this helps someone, Thanks for the deal

  • Confirm Bunnings matched it in Victoria. Bought 2 still plenty on shelf.

  • AT A GLANCE:

Control nearly any low-voltage electronics device
    "Knowledge of electrical wiring required"

Oh no, do I have to call an electrician? :)

  • saw one guy carried this in garden city WA. Can try calling if you are interested; that guy looked hesitate to make his way to the register.

  • +2

Called up and had two put aside at Innaloo. By the time I got there someone had bought all 3, including mine. Actually had a use for mine, instead they will probably end up being flipped on ebay.

    • +9

I hope you reenacted the scene from Seinfeld about the difference between taking a reservation, and holding a reservation.

    • And you know that how

  • What kind of tasks is this good for?
    Any great example of use?

    • +1

connecting it to a garage door opener would be good when going for a jog and not having to take keys. Come back with your phone and hit the button in the WeMo app.

    • Not much. It has one low-voltage relay, and one sensor input, with a wifi interface.
Could turn some LED lights on.

    • I have one of these hooked up to my garage door. You can use the Belkin app to activate the switch, in turn this opens the garage door.
But the main reason I have it, is using it in conjunction with ifttt app. This gives the ability to automatically open my garage door as I approach my house…no need to press the button.
Additionally, I can open the garage remotely from anywhere I've got internet access on my phone (just in case one of my family needs to get into the house i.e. locked out).

  • Were there any left at northland?

  • Hey OP did you happen to notice if they had any other WeMo products?

    • belkin led light starter set
[2 Wemo Led bulbs A19 /w Edison Screw E27 connector
1 Wemo Insight Link , install guide
      DSE p/n SE9023
      $61.18 ( norm DSE price $152.xx)

  • Thankyou, got the last 2 in Freo. I called after I saw your post. They hadn't made it to the shelf,

  • +2

How do you plug stuff into it?
If i can use it to turn lights on with the app howdoes it plug into the light?
    So confused lol

    • +1

This product isn't really for you then. The normal wemo with a 240 V socket may be what you're after.

    • +1

The DC one would need to control a contactor/ relay which in turn will control the lights, the contactor would need to be load rated for the lighting demand and installed by an electrician.

The DC unit max output is 1A.

The 240v version would be load rated too.

      • Thanks lads

  • mmmm

  • Check out some uses for Wemo Maker on youtube:
    https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=wemo+maker

Sprinkler system is a good start:-
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QLhNIq6p7o

    • I have my system on a timer whic is by far easier to use then this…. Plug and play pretty much.

But this is OK if you can plug it into an array of contacts to do some fancy stuff… Or just buy a cheap PLC

  • +2

What does it do? Do I want one?

    • Various links above that may assist you with your question.

  • Does anyone know if office works will price match online?
    S

  • This product isn't even listed on their website. Looks like it's for low voltage DC devices only, you'd have to get some kind of transformer or similar to get it to work with AC circuits which just makes it far too bulky and way too much effort.

    • To make to work with ac systems you would need to get a contractor or relay that this uni turns on and off whoh in turn opens and closes the relays contacts.

    • +1

You can use this unit for the sensor input or trigger it from your phone or WiFi, and it will turn on a Wemo light or power point. Simplest solution, but more expensive.

The YouTube Door Chime video is an example of this use.

Otherwise a relay with power supply or similar will be needed to be connected to the 'Relay' output, as the unit's relay is only rated at 1A 24V (24W).

Silicon Chip published 2 simple designs for the Relay Box. I've used these when prototyping projects for years - bought cheap when DS exited the electronic kit market. Jaycar may stock the kit. Involves soldering.

A suitable mains rated relay, DC plug pack with voltage to operate the relay, insulated box, 240V cables for mains input & output (extension lead cut in half & safely connected to relay & secured), & low voltage leads to the Wemo 'Relay' terminals is about all you need. The important thing is mains wiring needs to be safely insulated. So don't attempt if you aren't proficient in working with mains power!!!

You can then program the action of this unit to control the output.

  • Wow, that's an excellent price.
I bought 2 during the start of the sales at $50 each thinking that was an awesome limited spot bargain.

At that price it would be cheap enough to throw onto the Christmas lights…
These things are pretty cool - the logic is waay to basic in their own app. but use with other sensors or better yet IFTTT.
Even just using the sensor port for alerts/alarms. ie "garage door has been open for more that x", "you have snail-mail".
    Good find.

  • My local DS aren't answering the phones, or put me on hold & didn't cone back :(
Interesting device, but in the time I spent on hold I talked myself out the potential purchase - I probably don't want it.

  • +1

Just picked up 2 of these from Bunnings at Stafford. Still had 5 left.
The lady there knew all about this price match (beat) and didn't hesitate for second.

    • Thanks for the local into.
Curious what you will use them for?

      • +1

No specific project just yet…they will just form part of my arsenal of electronic crap that I hoard.

But down the track the plan is:
        * Garage door
        * Controlling internal lights whilst away
        * Watering Veggie Garden

I have some Wemo switches already that I use for pedestal fans, kids night lights, Christmas lights and room heaters.

I could mash something up using Raspberry Pi, but I like how simple the Wemo gear is and my Wife uses it happily.
It also works on my Android and her iOS without confusion.

        For $149 each I wouldn't bother… but at $23ea it was a no-brainer.

        • I'm trying to clear out my bountiful "arsenal of electronic crap that I hoard" ;-)

I'm still looking for a problem to solve, to justify its purchase.

Veggie watering system is a sound idea. But I remember designing a system for a farmer 🚜. It had all the bells & whistles. But before astonishing him with my creation, I asked how he currently watered his crops. He took out a measuring cylinder. Turns out his knowledge of his land was probably superior to my sensor system. And the measuring cylinder had marks for each crop. It was filled with fuel, enough for the pump to supply each crop before running out. I packed up my design. I learnt not to over design & understand the user & problem first.

        • @Infidel:
          Fair Points.
Most of my projects have little tangible value in the real world…but they keep me interested and occupied and I'd rather use my brain fiddling with gadgets than watching the idiot box.
I also think it sets a great example to my sons to see their Dad build and fix things.
My wife is an artist / designer, so I guess this stuff is a creative outlet for me.

        • @CafeRacerX:
I've been enjoying circuits & programming microprocessors for a long time. So no argument that it stimulates the brain, is satisfying, & can be creative.
          Enjoy ;-)

    • Able to post a receipt? Will head down there later and get some

    • My SA Bunnings would not price match using either the dick smith or Bunnings receipt :-(

    • Strange, My Gravatt Bunnings manager just rang Stafford to ask about sales of these, to check claim of price match. None have been sold in last 2 weeks according to their system! Staff did not know about price match according to Stafford manager.

Sue the manager is discussing price match. DS won't answer phones so can check price:( Without proof of local stock at that price (or possibly receipt from local Bunnings) - no price match of over $30 discount.

      So please post the receipt.

      • +1

        CLICKY HERE

I was armed with the DS receipt and the Bunnings Receipt that was posted previously, but was not even asked for it.

        • Thanks.
Strange Staffords system reported no sales of this device, but I'll take a receipt over a sales report :-)
          Back to Bunnings.

    • If you're able to, would you be willing to pick up two more and post them to me for $100? They're for personal use and NOT resale. Please let me know. Thank you in advance!

  • Nowra Bunnings wouldn't price match. They told me the staff member hasn't been spoken to at Tuggeranong yet but it sounded like they will be. It looks like the Bunnings staff who have price matched it at $25 will be in a bit of trouble.

  • I tried at Bunnings Bankstown Airport and after an hour of trying to get through to a DSE store they confirmed the price but said it was clearance so I got nothing :( I want to cry :(

    • Basically that story at My Gravatt Bunnings, Brisbane. No price match on clearance. Only went to store because CafeRacerX said another Brisbane store had pricematched. A waste of time, but great for those who were successful. Will try again as CafeRacerX has posted local receipt, but I don't like my chances. Easy for them to say staff member made a mistake giving pricematch.

My Bunnings says the serial number on the DS receipt doesn't match what the one in Bunnings scans at…

Any chance of a pic behind the box?

  • None on the shelf at Bunnings Cranbourne, so either they've been snapped up or they have been removed from the shelf.

  • Anyone know if any DSE stores have any?

  • None at sunshine, Sunbury, and wstergardens

  • Just picked up two at Bunnings Fountain Gate, VIC. It did take a long time and a manager's intervention, but they were cordial and as the manager said, with this type of price discrepancy, they need to do their diligence or they could be out of a job.

For anyone else attempting at another Bunnings, the model is the same. The part number listed is a DSE part number. The description is identical and the Belkin site only lists one model, so there is no argument that the product is different. They can't use this as an excuse.

They are not listed on the DSE website, but by the terms for the Bunnings price match, a listing on the DSE website is not a requirement.

I went in armed with printouts of the DSE receipt and 3 copies of different Bunnings receipts. In the end, there was no argument. In the end if you have all the information that proves that it complies with their terms (which includes purchasing for your own use, not to resell), then it's not in Bunnings interest to refuse you.

  • Bunnings excludes clearance prices according to the store I tried

"Excludes trade quotes, stock liquidations and commercial quantities. Shelf prices may be lower than advertised to ensure lowest prices every day."

  • Original poster will have to confirm, but AFAIK this is not a clearance line. I believe it was newly received stock which was on sale, and scanned at an even lower price.

Nothing on the DSE website lists a clearance, it's not even on yet. It's more likely a pricing error.

  • Bunnings in WA out of stock:
    Inglewood (oos)
Morley (system shows 6 - none in store staff looked everywhere)
Malaga (system shows 3 - none left)

Balcatta has 3 left but had a shitfit about the price match. They finally sold me one but wouldn't sell the others even though Malaga and Morley were more than happy to do the price match but couldn't find the items in store.

    Receipt Malaga - http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/89985/35756/image.jpeg
    Receipt Balcatta - http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/89985/35755/image.jpeg

Bunnings has flagged these receipts and won't let you use them. The products are different and the serial numbers don't match. Please don't try. We don't like to say no but we will.

    • Why would you neg that comment? I'm trying to save you time!

      • Agree with your motivation but my guess is the neg is for the fact there is only one wemo maker product so it must be a product match? Also not all Bunnings have said no.

In my case Bunnings refusal was predicated on the reason that they will not match a 'clearance price'.

  • Would anyone be willing to buy two for me from anywhere and ship them to me? Or I can pick them up from you if you're in Sydney. Please?! Thank you in advance!

  • Please purchase one of these before the Labor Prime Minister Mr Turnbull switches off WiFi.

  • +2

just another confirmation, went to bunnings and they said they will not price match due to dick smith fire sale and some stupid excuse of "we had to send all the units back as they were missing their power supply"

  • Bunnings Castle Hill, NSW refused to price match stating that OP's DSE receipt showed a different part number.

    :-(

    • +2

It's somewhat stupid, because there is only 1 wemo maker ever released to the consumer by belkin.

  • Just want tell my experience.
    Bunnings Alexandria
Spend 40min but at the end I brought 5 item.
They ask 2 managers. Also try to call the store in Victoria.
4 items had no power supply

    Next day try another Bunnings.
    Manager say:
I don't price match from Victoria
The item is not the same. Different item number

I left and write down her name for a complain. She also tried to take the copy of receipt away from me

    • Would you sell me one? And how much for? Thanks :)

      • Sorry but I didn't buy for resell.

I need for a home project.

        • No worries, all good. Enjoy them :)

  • +1

Does dick smith still have these at $25.49? Anywhere? Can anyone please confirm.

    • and/or until when?

  • So I went into Bunnings last night to get this deal and they flat out refused based on the model number not being on the receipt. I wrote an email to their customer service team when I got home. Long story short… Picked up x 2 this afternoon for the Bunnings price

  • Also picked up a Belkin Switch+Motion for $40.70 @ DSE Airport West today. Went to Bunnings at Taylor Lakes and they applied their price guarantee picking up another one for $36!

    • Hi iosonic

Can you please put up the ds reciepts for switch+motion

      Usually $100+. ?

      Thx,
      S

  • ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH! Nice guys finish last :(

Went to Pakenham Bunnings Tues night and they had 4 (!) on the shelf. Lady at the returns counter got the manager to verify the price match, turns out serial numbers are different. Duty manager attended to me, nice lady and I was pretty pleasant about the whole thing. If they weren't going to price match it, fair enough, I was prepared to go home empty handed without kicking up a fuss or making unreasonable demands. Manager at the time went away and left me waiting for a good 15 mins. When she got back, she said she would have to ring up dick Smith on wed and got me to email her the receipts.

On wed I sent through the other Bunnings receipt from here, and got no response. Give them another day i thought, didn't want to be too pushy.

Just now I rang, waited 10 mins to talk to the manager, turns out she's a different manager, listens to my story and said "but you came in again yesterday and we sold it to you."

    ………….

Turns out some other OzBargainer must have grabbed it while I was waiting for a reply about the price match. And now they're sold out. Gahhhhhhhhhhh

If anyone has one just sitting around or bought one too many please, I'd really like one. :|

  • Didn't have any on the shelf but asked the staff and lucky 2 units out the back still scanning at $25.49. Bunnings didn't want a bar of this apprantly a email has gone around notifying them they don't have to offer price match due to clearance sale.

  • I'm still rather desperately after one of these, if anyone has buyers remorse or no idea what to do with theirs, I will gladly pick up or pay postage.

I've just looked and none on gumtree and eBay wants $120ish… :(

Send me a pm please if you have one to get rid of! XD
