Where can I advertise my tutoring services?

Hi all,

I have been advertising on gumtree with 1 ad however every time I try to post a second advertisement (related to tutoring but not the same as my first advertisement) it gets deleted.

I also have flyers up at universities close by but these don't seem to attract many clients.

Any ideas where else I could advertise?

  • School newsletters.

  • http://www.tutorfinder.com.au/ -> this one's pretty good

    Letterbox drop close to schools. Hand out flyers after school. Put a notice up in local shops. Get some business cards made up. I was a tutor, originally working for someone and then on my own during my Uni days. Ask your friends and friends of friends if they know anyone needing a tutor.

  • The subject you are tutoring should also affect response rates. I have heard there is a great demand for High school Maths and English in general. As it's the university break, I doubt there would be many university students with a need for tutoring. You would be looking at finding people who are doing summer semester. I'd say that a leaflet drop in your local area would be a good start. This could point to a "business card" website that gives more information. Other options are student websites like www.sunbrisbane.com but localised for your area.

  • Advertise on Facebook groups. Find and join the community ones for your suburb, local schools, uni, buy/sell pages etc. I never bother looking at gumtree anymore for things, just look to my local groups on Facebook for what I want. Easier to ask a question, suss someone out etc.

    Make sure you read the rules of the group before posting, most groups I'm in allow advertising but some have rules about how often, what day you are allowed to advertise etc.

    As others have said, timing can make a big difference. Not many people are thinking about tutoring services at the moment. Also, if you are posting about tutoring services make sure your profile is clean and professional looking before you post an advert.
