Which Are The Best Wireless Speakers Other than Sonos

I want wireless speakers which I can connect to my tv audio and PC audio. I read that Sonos can't do this or not not many can as they dont come with aux inputs. I would like to play mp3's from itunes but also all other audio from my pc. I'm thinking about the Samsung m3 and Sonos play 1. I have a Samsung TV which I would also like to get a sound bar and wireless subwoofer. Is Sonos really worth the cost or is Samsung or other brands still OK.

  • I'm not one for keeping up with the latest and greatest but I do read a lot of Sonos reviews and Bose Soundlink (? - it's Bose, guessimembering Soundlink, might be another name for their range) is always bought up as being the only good competition atm.

But I think Sonos is the standard for the price point ie. the best.

  • Wireless speakers are likely to lag with TV input. If lipsync issues are likely to drive you bonkers, go with a wired soundbar.

The high-end Sonos, the Play:5, does have Aux input, but the others don't. You can get a Connect or Connect:Amp to connect other hifi/av equipment to the other speakers.

Speaker quality is very very subjective. If you can find a hifi shop (not jb, a real hifi shop) they'll let you listen to different speakers with music you bring in. But those kinds of places aren't likely to stock brands like Samsung. I would suggest picking a budget first, then minimum specs (aux input, which bits wireless, bluetooth audio) and then listen to some speakers.

  • ive got both the sonos and samsung. i find the samsung sounding just as good and obviously cheaper. both have software app limitations.

if you have samsung devices like phone and tv, then stick to Samsung as connectivity is easier

    • Hi thanks for your reply. which samsung speakers do you have and yes I do have samsung tv and phone. What do you mean by software app limitations

      • i think its the m3 speaker. little but quite powerful. from within samsung app you cant see the songs you purchased from google store as an example. no big deal as you can just play the song from the normal music player but it would be nice to have it integrated. just little idiosyncrasies like that but certainly no deal breaker

  • Sound is a very subject feeling. suggest have a test session and see whether you're comfortable with the alternatives.

  • I personally prefer using an apple airport express and a sound system / speakers of your choice. Its a much simpler set up and it works seemlessly. Plus you can choose your speakers. I have bought cheap 2 channel amps off ebay and hooked them up to some old wooden shelf speakers I had lying around and they have been great.

    • Can you explain how this works. Is your connection wireless or wired. I'm reading the speakers need to be air play enabled which brands are these. What is the apple airport express for. Will this work if I dont have an Iphone or mac computer.

      • Its pretty basic.

The apple airport express is a small router with an optical/3.5mm audio out jack. It can be wired or wireless, and you just name it something like 'living room'. Then you plug your favourite stereo into it, or in my case a tiny amp and speakers. You don't need a mac or iphone, you can use a PC with itunes or itunes on android. Its great because its not buggy and a $130 airport express is all you need.

This is basically the setup I have.
