Cheap Window 7 Keys?

Do they still exist, since they can be used to get windows 10 on a machine.

    • Just be extra careful as there is the occasional MDSN or VL key that gets sold and blocked by Microsoft.

  • go to the tip and find an old computer with the cd-key sticker still on it. take a picture.
Free. No one will miss it.
And that will be you recycling doing your bit for the environment

That key on the sticker is licensed only to that particular machine. Under the license terms, it is not transferrable. So if you do this, you still will not have a "valid" license.

  • Yes, Windows 7 Professional is still being sold to OEMs and will continue to be until October, 2016, though Windows 7 support (meaning updates and technical support continues until 2020). HP, Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, Acer and so on are still offering OEM PCs and Laptops with Windows 7 Professional as an OS option (though more commonly, you actually get Windows 8.1 with "downgrade rights" to Windows 7, so you in fact get two OSs, with the choice of using one at a time). For instance at work this year I ordered a Toshiba Portege Z-30A Ultrabook and several HP workstations with Windows 7.

All the non-enterprise, "consumer" versions (Win 7 Basic/Home Premium/Ultimate) were phased out at the end of 2014, meaning OEMs/System Builders can no longer build new PCs with those versions of Windows 7, although enough stock was and is floating around that you can probably still pick up retail, boxed consumer copies of Windows 7 if you look hard enough. Though I doubt anyone's still going to have OEM PCs with Windows 7 Home Premium in their inventory anymore.

Newegg and Amazon would be the most straightforward and legitimate sources for Windows 7 Professional licences.

Not sure if this Win7 Pro OEM licence ships to Australia, but it's damn cheap and really, nobody is going to give a sh*t if you use it in a brand-new PC as opposed to a "refurbished" one (unless you get audited, which you won't as a lowly home user).

      • Yep, you can now use Windows 7 keys during the Windows 10 installation (wasn't the case until a month or two ago).
