I have uni starting soon and I know that around this time is a good time to buy. I'm just not sure when's the best time, whether it's before Christmas, boxing day, or in January for back to school.
What do you guys reckon?

It's better for you to be in lookout for the deals than to assume that a deal from one time will be better than the other, in my opinion. Deals can pop up regardless of those times, i.e. newer tech get released (be it Intel releasing newer CPU line leading to rehash of older models with the newer CPU etc) or like what happened with DSE.
I'd probably be in lookout for deals during all three times you've mentioned if I were you.
Boxing Day. Picked up my Dell 40% off last year. Delivery took a while with public holidays etc.
Was it an older model? I've been eyeing off the XPS 13, and would jump at 40% off.
The model was discontinued in April. Just check the website on Saturday morning.
There isn't a "best" time.
Buy now and don't buy from the big companies if they don't have stock. Be prepared to wait a month for your order if you do ask for a backorder. Don't forget to use cashrewards too. I just missed out on $100 from dell. poooo
