Has Anyone Claimed Price Protection for iPhones before?

I have a Coles Mastercard and want to buy the new iPhone outright, will the price usually reduce within the next 2 years? Is there a likelihood that the new model will just be discontinued, hence price protection doesn't work? So which store will be good to buy now and potentially claim on the most reduction later?

Thanks for any tips.

  • Remember any claim over $200 requires a store staff member to sign that the phone has discounted. If you need it, buy it. When you factor in usage costs, you may find some plans work out better. I have two iPhones and an iPad from earlier this year and prices haven't changed yet.

With price protection you just need to be aware of what you've bought, from where and how much.

I go through my scanned receipts once every few months and go from there.

    • Have you found it difficult to have any claims honoured? Do you just keep an eye on big ticket items or smaller things too? I'm very interested as I noticed 28 Degrees offer price protection (0.5% of outstanding balance each month I believe) and was thinking it could save a few dollars.

  • Thanks for your tips.
Out of curiosity, where did you get your phone? Will the service be the same if you purchase from Apple store or Big W?

    • If you have problems, even if you bought it from other stores, you can take it straight to Apple. I believe Apple will only help you out if it's local stock though (not a grey import).

  • Thanks.
