  • Doesn't seem to work for me MCY-MEL, 30 Jan.

    • +1

Yes it does not seem to work on all flights despite claiming to be network-wide. I'll check with Virgin on this.

  • Without code - MEL > DAR $299 - DAR > MEL $269
    With code - MEL > DAR $248.73 - DAR > MEL $221.46

It is working there is just no visual indication to say it's been applied.

    • I tried with and without on the above flight - same price.

      • Really? I am using the dates Jan 13 and return Jan 15. Try with those dates and see what happens.

          Did some digging….

I don't think it is applying to any direct flights out of MCY - on any dates (I also tried 13 Jan).

It does apply to flights with a stopover (e.g. MCY-SYD-MELB) - but it is not giving the proper discount (e.g. discounts from $323.87 to $304.30 - this is nowhere near 20%).

I think it is excluding all flights from MCY from the discount, and applying the discount only to the additional cost for the SYD-MEL part of the connection.

  • Save 20% on fares that always fluctuate in price due to supply/demand?

    • Well prices went up 400% for xmas period, due to 'supply/demand' so is 20% really a saving!?

Guessing they haven't filled as many seats as they wanted from the higher prices due to S/D of course ;)

I haven't travelled with Virgin in a looong time. The OzBargainer in me can't do it.

But with 20% off, 23 kg included check-in allowance, seat selection, snack with drink and POLi payment method to avoid booking fees this deal does make it more attractive.

While I understand the OzB mantra, when it comes to travel, I search for the best deal between Qantas and Virgin only. I would only consider Jetstar if they were massively cheaper. The experiences I've had over the last ten years lead me to stick with the big two for Domestic travel.

I understand (and I don't believe in the turning in of OzB badges, mental reprogramming, electrotherapy or disciplinary action).

Although I think all airlines have pretty poor performance (https://bitre.gov.au/statistics/aviation/otp_annual.aspx). If someone told me 1 in a 100 of my flights would be cancelled (and I may be stranded overnight) I would be concerned but even that would be almost twice as good as the average statistic. Personally, 1 in 5 of my domestic flights have been cancelled so I must be extra unlucky.

All of my excessively turbulent flights have been within Australia as well (though I suppose some issues are expected around the Pacific?).

        • I've had one flight canned due to fog in Albury, we had to turn around and come back to Sydney, get booked onto an Alternate flight to Melbourne and then drive from Melbourne to Benalla. Other than that, the only other delays have been due to crap weather (maybe 2-3 over the years) where it's affected all airlines and is something beyond their control. 1 in 5 sounds like a lot of flights, and I'd be pretty cheesed off if that was my ratio! :)

Not to mention the 5% off gift cards via the entertainment book that gives you cc points and negates the need tu use POLI.

      • How long does it normally take to arrive though?

        • Usually within 24 hours, too long in my books.

  • Any International codes floating about?

Just got a reply from Virgin Australia:

The 20% discount is only for domestic flights that still have M, S or T class inventory available

    • Cheers. Shame though. See my answer above - perhaps they do not offer those classes on certain routes?

    • Where do you see the class inventory and what do they represent?

      • Short, Medium and Tall
Actually I have no idea and would like to know

$99.43 one way on some SYD-MEL flights tomorrow night still available. That's incredible…

Sent it to a mate who looked up and found $80 each way flights Gold Coast to Sydney. Not bad.

  • Damn, booked yesterday with the 10% off code :(

  • Where do I even enter the code??? I can't find the textbox anywhere in the Payment page

    • +1

Next to the find flights button on the home page,

      • Cheers, almost paid for a flight thinking that it would be in the Payment page

  • Nice thanks :)

  • Thanks.

  • Awesome! Booked return tickets to Melbourne for the Aus Open next month for ~$520 two people.

    Thank you! :)

  • ADL -BNE 12th.-22nd Jan still cheaper on Kayak even with promo..
I.don't think the promo has made any difference

  • tried to book a flight from PER to BNE on Jan 11, but the price didn't change with the code. With or without the price was $355 plus booking fees, where as its only $309 through Kayak.

    • This code didnt work for me so used the 10% ticketek code instead.

    • -2

Why neg the deal just because it's sold out on the day you want. As for it being cheaper on kayak, enjoy the delights of dealing with an agent if something goes wrong and flights need to change, as the airline won't touch it.
