Qantas International - Checked In baggage dimensions

Hi,
I'm flying to the USA with Qantas next year and looking for some advice on dimensions of checked in baggage. The website provides for two bagged with total dimensions of the two bags not exceeding 106 inches each piece must not exceed 62 inches. I'm looking to take two normal suitcases both will be around 62 inches but I will exceed the total dimensions allowed for the two pieces.
Will Qantas still let me travel or will I get charged an excess dimensions fee?
Thanks for any help (this will be my first time flying internationally).

  • i have no actually experience with this , but do you really think they would be so specific as to state you can have a bag that is max 62 inches but the total of two bags can not be over 106 and just let people get away with it without charging them more @ check in , where they kinda have you hostage at that point , i would not risk it regardless of someone else's experience.

  • if the bags are bigger than allowed, there are only 2 possible outcomes

    1. they apply no additional cost
    2. they apply an additional cost

    over to you

  • Thanks for your comments. Does anyone have any idea of the oversize charges? The Qantas website has the charge for overweight bags but no mention of the charge for overdose bags.

  • Unless your suitcases look unusually huge, I highly doubt the staff would bother measuring each bag with a measuring tape. Well, I've travelled a lot and never saw this happen.

  • Thanks, I've bought a couple of suitcases in the Boxing Day sales so will only be about 7cm in total over the size so hopefully should be ok
