Alienware Alpha i3 - Cheap Deals, Dell/Alienware coupons etc

Hi there,

Looking for a good deal on an Alienware Alpha i3 (currently $799 at Dell). Pretty much limited to buying from Dell (?), but price doesn’t seem to be moving at the moment, unless there is a boxing day type sale comes up at Dell. Appreciate any coupons/other options anyone may have.

I've had a look at refurbished models and they're using an older processer and slower HD, so probably not preferable.

Thanks.

  • If you can wait for the next set of ebay deals, you can probably get it at a decent discount. I got one for around $620 (20% off + cashback).

  • Thanks. Out of interest, when did you get that deal?

    • At the end of November. It took about two weeks for it to actually arrive (build + delivery).
I got the upgraded model with Win 8.1 and a controller.

Some disk benchmarks to give you some idea of the 7200rpm drive.

      included 7200rpm drive:
      Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 124.431 MB/s
      Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 113.676 MB/s
      Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1.257 MB/s [ 306.9 IOPS]
      Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1.109 MB/s [ 270.8 IOPS]

with my (old 2012) Sandisk Extreme 120gb SSD:
      Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 480.937 MB/s
      Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 136.290 MB/s
      Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 79.331 MB/s [ 19367.9 IOPS]
      Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 108.440 MB/s [ 26474.6 IOPS]

Sequential write speeds would be much faster with a modern ssd.

  • Thanks rakkie.

    Are you happy with it?

Surprised that Dell have deals on just about everything other than the Alpha at the moment.

  • Found these coupons on the Cashrewards site, with 5% the best deal on Alienware.

Anyone else know of anything better around?

    Thanks
