Best Christmas lights post-Christmas?

Hi fellow bargainers. I'm going to be decorating a hall for a wedding in Newcastle, NSW http://www.saintjohns.com.au/hall and thought it would look good with some Christmas lights/ fairy lights.

Has anyone found a good place for lights after Christmas this year? I've found coloured lights 30% off at Big W and really expensive ones at Myer, but nothing brilliant anywhere else.

Have you noticed any good bargains for lights around after Christmas?

Help, please, guys!!

    Bunnings

My local Bunnings had NONE available for sale three days before Christmas, when we belatedly decided to get with the Christmas spirit, but I did see a big trolley load of stock near their hold/storage area, all shrink wrapped up and ready to be shipped back to the supplier. It appeared that they weren't prepared to sell excess stock off cheap. I didn't see any in the big supermarkets either when i was browsing to look for post Christmas bargains.

Perhaps they have all been bought up by Ebay shops or the like and can be found online? I recall seeing lots of string lights available when I was looking to plan a party a few years ago. I think I just googled party supplies.

    Good luck with your search.

  • Thanks both. Will try at Bunnings tomorrow.

Kmart had nothing left when I checked on 23rd December. I tried two Bunnings and they both had nothing.

Keen for a hot tip if anyone's got one.

I get most of mine online from either deals direct or oo.com.au as they are Australian sites steer clear of ebay unless they comply with the AU standards

  • I went looking on Boxing Day at Southland and found nothing. I suspect many retailers are not discounting lights now, just put them away till next year. Everyone wants them, so why discount I guess is the reason.

  • My local Coles had solar ones half price ($10 from $20). They could have regular as well.

    This is them:

  • I am in the same boat - I wanted fairy lights to decorate a hall for my wedding. However, I know from previous years that there are hardly any left after Christmas and that the cheapest lights available (Kmart) sell out sometimes early in December.
I bought 15x $17 Kmart sets in November when they first put their stock out.
If you can't find any and your wedding is after mid-April I'll be selling mine then if you are interested?

  • Kmart is clearing Christmas stock at the moment. 240 string lights for $5 at my local. Worth calling stores tomorrow to find out if they have stock and if it is on sale (stores in WA mark Christmas stock at different prices). I picked up a few 180 lights from Dick Smith before Christmas for $5 so this is a much better deal!
