Right time to buy a TV?

Hi guys,

Moving in to a new house in mid feb and need a TV. Thinking along the lines of a 50"-55" around the 1k mark. The guy at JB said that I won't want to leave it later than the Australia Day holiday as after that, pretty much all the specials will be gone, new models will be in, and they'll be full price.

Can anyone confirm that this is generally true or not?

Thanks

Have oyu seen OzBargain lately? Every second deal is tv related. I haven't been in the market for a tv for a while but it generally seems like now is the best time to buy one.

    Just buy one now.

  • preferably on ebay with the 15% code and cashrewards!

  • Yeah I've seen a lot of deals but I've been unsure whether to buy in case they're good on paper but not in the 'flesh'.

I understand key points like resolution and hertz, but is there anything else I should look out for? No TVs have built in mirroring for iPhones do they? I like samsungs and I'm looking at about 55".

    Thanks.

  • It depends on how fussy you are.

Eg, if you're a brand whore and you need a high end Samsung or Panasonic then yeah, pay cash, haggle hard with DSE JB HN etc.

If you're bargain joe and are happy with offbrand stuff then just buy whatever is cheapest from DSE even Target Big W etc.

I see no problem with the various cheap 40-50-55s no names inc. JVC Akai Soniq Seiki Aldi Medion whatever as long as the warranty is there and you can fix up their failings.

  • Great! Thanks.
