Buying 2nd Hand Lancer 2011 VR variant

Hello Guys, New to Australia and have absolutely no idea about the cars. I am interested in a 2nd Hand Lancer 2011, manual, VR variant 164,000 KMs done and due for a service at 165Ks. Car was advertised at 9K and owner is finally agreeing for 8K including roadworthy, have to pay by this coming weekend. Do you think it's a good value for money or should I stay away? Not sure whether Lancers have a good reputation, resale and can last for another 100-150Ks. Also is it better to go for Manual or Automatic, I am tending to go for Manual as a local mechanic told me it costs less to service and lasts longer than an automatic, not sure if it's true. Car is neat and clean, and there is no visible marks apart from a very slight dent on the door. Thanks a ton people.

No one really goes manual in a car like that, so it might be harder to sell later on. Though the auto is cvt so pretty average, but more popular than manual.

Also, 40,000kms/yr is very high mileage! Normally you'd expect 20-25/yr. Just make sure adequate services have been done.

Just make sure you do a REVS check

    • Thanks dude.

      • Personally I wouldn't buy a small(ish) car that was an auto. Much prefer manual unless it is a full size, or SUV. Some people still like a third pedal in the footwell. I am lucky enough to live and commute in an area that doesn't involve traffic jams on a regular occasion.

get a professional to look it over
    $8k is still $8k

It's a lot of kilometres in a short time, but I have a 2004 Lancer with 207k km and very little has gone wrong with it. Never left me stranded or refused to start. Still on the original clutch.

going by your description only… it comes down to can you drive manual or automatic?

I dont have a problem with manual and by the time i'm finished with the car its worthless anyway so i'm not into resale. In this country we tend to be very divided about transmission.

Even if people can drive manual, they buy autos because they live in the city.

mitsubishi has horrible resale sad to say

also IMO $8k for a car with 165,000km seems very very high to me… also think of it like this, when you go to sell, how easy is it to get rid of a 2011 Lancer in 2019 (for example) with say 200,000km on it (assuming you put in 35,000km)

I'd walk from this, too much downside.
