Dual Sim Phone Good for Both Telstra and China Mobile 4G

Hi All,

Ive recently started travelling back n forth China for work purposes.

Can you please recommend a dual sim phone that is good for China mobile+unicom, while also good for Telstra 4G?

My current aussie samsung S4 doesnt take China mobile and the speed of Edge is a pain..

Would like a
1, smooth reliable phone (3G RAM UP, 64G ROM) other than iphone or samsung
2, have compatible, google-service-pack based rom to install (to replace those UIs loaded with Chinese apps),
3 around 5 inch
4, long battery life

Thanks!

  • whatever your phone of choice is + Huawei Y550

hard to beat that combo for price point and should meet all your requirements.

what do you mean with point 2??

    • Thanks!

      I meant google-service-pack based rom

For eg. Chinese UIs dont have google apps like playstore, google map etc. So I would like to reload with a clean rom.

    • Just Had a look of Y550. I hope to carry just one phone. So it doesnt appear to be powerful enough on the specs. Any other choices?

      • My phone of choice is my Samsung Galaxy S5 G906S. August2014.
        3gb ram
        Korean rom
        $550aud from china

I did run cyanogen… but reverted back to base rom.

I went samsung over oneplus1 at the time because it is mainstream samsung. (Perhaps im a sucker for the brand hype and the wait for oneplus)

I carry the huawei y550 in addition on travels to tether 3g or 4g available.

Triple sim adapters ive tried. But none i know of you can receive calls from both sims simultaneously.

    Huawei mate 7 or 8?

    Moto x play?

    Huawei p8?

Lenovo vibe p1 or Zuk z1

    • all these + redmi note 3

    • Any of these phone support 4G band 28, 700 ?

  • How safe are these custom roms?

    cyanomodgen?

Have you looked into VPN for android?
Ive been told that betternet works pretty good.

    • well exactly..safety is also very important.

I am using expressVPN now in China but the speed is just OK and it gets blocked quite often. Would try Astril next time

  • Among The Above suggested phones only Zuk1 is 5inch and 3GB ram.. Looked into the reviews and the design details put me off.

How is one plus in terms of dual sim and telstra?

  • Keen to learn more about this too, I've been back and forth and have not been able to find a dual sim that will take the China Mobile 4G and use all the LTE bands (Not too worried about LTE 700) here. iPhone 6 onwards seem to support all the bands but i need to carry 2 phones.

Looking at the Xiaomi Redmi 3 but it doesnt seem to do LTE 850/900

    • If you would like China Mobile, you will most definitely have to get a Chinese phone becoz Telecom and Mobile all use a China specific 4G tech, called TD LTD. Even the band, for eg. 2100 matches, you wont be able to use becoz TD LTD and FDD (aussie etc.) are totally different technology.

Huawei honor 7 is an option. the problem is it doesnt have custom roms right now so google services are limited

this is the pain of buying a Chinese domestic mobiles where they have very unique UIs due to the information blockage.

Otherwise, get a international dual sim and take telstra and China Unicom. Unicom uses FDD technology.

      • Have you considered the Sony Z5 Dual?

  • I think XRN2 (xiaomi redmi note 2) would be good enough in the RAM (2gb) and storage (extendable) departments for a dual carrier sim. TDD one for $160

Lenovo K3 Note. Been bargained on here a few times. About $175-200 to get it shipped here but if you are going over regularly I am sure you can get it cheaper in China.
It is a Chinese phone so would be amazed if it did not cover the Chinese bands.
I use it with a Virgin and Telstra Sim. Works real well.
The rom it comes with sucks big time but there a is a huge developer community with 60+ roms available. Really easy to change roms.
I am using CM 12.1 and it is rock solid.
Lot of info and support on Whirlpool

    Also on XDA

  • I think the only dual sim phone that support china mobile (TD LTE) is Samsung S7 Edge.

  • Maybe try Oppo or Huawei? Likely R7/R7s or P8 respectively.

Both originate from China so I would assume support the necessary China LTE bands (of course you should check this), but also support band 28 and other necessary bands for use here.

    • Not all china made phones support all their own bands. Some are made solely for China mobile. The exported models normally dont work with the TD-LTE.
