Scanpan Classic Colours Green Frypan Set 20 & 26 cm $57 (+$7 Delivery) @ Peter's of Kensington

150

I was going to buy the Classic Colours Frypan 24 cm from this deal. Just before checking out, thought I'd look for other items on their website and found the Classic Frypan 20 & 26 cm set as part of their Daily Deal. This works out to be cheaper at $28.50 per piece. Also I think 24 cm is a bit too small.

Shipping is $7 to NSW. This deal ends at 10 am on Sunday 3rd January, so be quick!

This is worth a read about the surface material.
    http://www.lovelowfat.com/ceramic-vs-teflon/

Teflon is thought to be carcinogenic, especially above 260deg. This description talks about usage below 260deg. I wonder if this is a cut and paste problem, or a genuine limitation on ceramic surfaces.

Teflon is a trade name, owned by dupunt for their PTFE products. A slight modification of chemicals stops it being PTFE from a chemistry level …… but it keeps all the same characteristics, e.g no stick, and doesn't like high temperatures, gives of gas at high temp, has the same temperature range. Same marketing and patent model as generic drugs at the chemist ….. different name same effect, same characteristics.

With these ceramic surfaces, it's a mixture of teflon and ceramic particles …… the teflon for the non stick, and particles of ceramic for durability against scratching (like the stones (aggregate) in polished concrete floors stop the softer mortar (sand and cement) from wearing . Ceramic, stone, titanium ….. just additives to the teflon to make it scratch resistant (not scratch proof). So although the ceramics can take high heat and are inert, the teflon it's embedded in isn't.

You would need to consume a large amount (have used alot of pans) to get cancer from it I presume (not sure how much they gave to the mice or how many meals were cooked for the mice in teflon pans).

My biggest gripe is more the temperature limits and it does eventually stick as the teflon wears down from the peaks of ceramic particles from use with spatulas, spoons, etc……. and lifetime warranty isn't your lifetime ….. it's what they deem is the lifetime of the pan …… designed to last 3years, 5 years, 10 years, etc.

      • opps, went to peters, googled cuinsinart not scanpan …… their pans (Cuisinart) are competitively priced with discounted Scanpan at the moment but are tri-ply stainless-aluminium-stainless and no stick, so if the non stick dies, use camping or on the BBQ, bought 2x20cm and 2x26 cm

Wow, never cook with oil, never preheat an empty pan, wash with white vinegar. Those are three suggestions that I've never followed.

    Do you like
    green edge Scanpan?

    I do not like them,
    Sam-I-am.
    I do not like
    green edge Scanpan.

They say it is a scratch-proof dish,
But I'd say that's complete bulltish.

They say that food just will not stick,
To that i say "marketing trick"

They say "premium" and have "long life",
I wish ACCC would give them strife.

It is fair to say that a "fan-I-am" i am not!

yeah, how long is long life for a pan , wish there was an AS (Australian standard for it)

the Cuisinart are looking like better value from peters ……..
