My wife tries to get me to wear Crocs so all the ladies will leave me alone.

Wear'em with socks. That ought to guarantee it.

I hate the classic styl, but I have to admit they all are very comfortable for my feet.

When I see people wearing Crocs, I know immediately that we have nothing in common, and that we could never be friends or have any meaningful kind of relationship. They come in every color imaginable yet look bad with every other article of clothing ever created. The only thing that goes with Crocs is social ostracism.

When it comes to shoes, there are usually three deciding factors: quality, price, and style. Some shoes are cheap and stylish, but poor quality, while others are stylish and durable, but expensive. Crocs usually go for $30-$60, which doesn't sound like much for a shoe, until you consider that what you're really paying for are melted pellets squirted into a cast-iron mold in some province in China. Crocs have the rare combination of being expensive, poor quality, and ugly. It's quite a feat for one shoe to suck this bad.

People who wear Crocs go on and on about how comfortable they are, and how it's supposedly odor resistant because it's made out of some kind of anti-bacterial foam. Great point, gumbies! You know what else it's resistant to? You getting laid. Then as if the shoes weren't disgusting enough, Crocs introduced a product called "Crocs butter" that's supposed to restore that illustrious injection-molded sheen to those gaping holes they call shoes:

You know that feeling you get when you're full and slightly nauseous and you burp and you can taste the partly digested food in the back of your throat? There isn't a word in the english language to succinctly describe it, but I will hereby refer to it as: croc-butter.

Not necessary to be such serious to all things in the world. Nowadays, many things are changing quickly and even out of control. I got one people said, "it can only prove that you are getting older when you cannot get used to some new things nowadays". I am not talking everything in the world is good but at least I am happy to appreciate them or even just tolerant them.

    • So you have nothing against thongs, but only Crocs? :-) Relax mate!

One thing Crocs has taught me is that any people who write them off solely due to their admittedly garish "style" are not open minded and probably not someone I would care to hang out with.

Having initially been a person to disregard and make fun of Crocs I recently decided not to judge a book by it's cover and do some research on these shoes which lots of people swear by.

Upon doing this I realised a few things -
      A) They are very well made and last well
      B) They are extremely comfortable, even to the point some paediatricians suggest them to people with particular feet pain
      C) They are made from a patented material which has anti-microbial features, resists moisture (preventing smell), and moulds to the wearers feet

I bought a pair and have used them camping many times and am very, very happy with them. They are essentially an off-road pair of thongs, I have walked up and down rivers in them, gone on bush trecks etc. They are comfortable and provide a surprising amount of insulation.

But hell, if your primary need for footwear is for them to match the rest of your outfit then I guess they're not for you :)

Edit: I took the bait, but seriously, Crocs are legit and I do recommend. Thanks for the post OP I passed it on to two of my friends who were both keen on getting a pair after my last camping mission.

I find it ironic that a user, containing "fashion" in their name, would make a post about Crocs.

The next best thing from socks and sandals.

I don't find Crocs very comfortable, but damn they look good.

The best part about them is how dynamic they are. Whether you're doing something casual or a bit more formal, your Crocs have you covered.

Yes the clogs are hideous but the non-clog styles are quite good. Nothing but praise for their thongs too, so light and way comfier than havaianas and the like.

  • Nothing wrong with Crocs for toddlers and young kids, getting heaps of wear out of the ones we have for ours.

  • +1 for all the laughters induced by this post

  • I was converted when I reluctantly tried on a pair of these..

Easily the most comfortable shoes Ive ever had, wear them to work everyday and yes Ive actually been laid since buying them.

Just purchased a few more including the leather pair mentioned above that will become my new wear to work shoes. And for anyone wondering, I work in I.T. so Im already way on the back foot when it comes to fashion so Im happy to stick with comfort.. Although I don't think these look that bad either.

  • I'm thinking of moving beyond crocs and their imitations but I can't think of any alternatives.

My main requirements are a shoe that is:
    (i) wide
    (iii) cheap
    (iv) waterproof
    (v) can be worn without socks for long walks
(vi) has basic arch support to allow short bursts of running without losing one's shoe

I find crocs tear up and blister my skin pretty badly and by the time they soften up they also lose a lot of foot support and shoe structure.

Can anyone suggest alternatives? Looks aren't important. Obviously.

  • My clogs are starting to wear out so will try out the Kadee style. Ta muchly.

  • Seems to still be active?

the classic crocs are really comfortable and i prefer them over havaianas. I tend to urinate in public so i get minimal splash on the feet.

  • Great when we our out in the boat. Ordered on 6/1 received on the 8/1 = fast service + post.
