Nintendo Wii Games and Accessories

Hi all. Long time lurker that has finally registered to take full advantage of this place.

My 2 kids were recently handed down a Wii console, and are now bugging me to complete the collection with some games and all the required accessories. Being that it is an older second hand console, with no guarantee as to its condition, I really don't feel like going out and buying a heap of expensive games if the thing is going to stop working after a week, or if the kids decide they are bored with it after a month.

I have done a quick scan of gumtree, but have found very few controllers/remotes by themselves, most seem to be bundled up with consoles, which I don't need.

So i'm looking for the absolute cheapest place to get some good games and a couple of the remotes. Doesn't bother me if they are used or new, or if I buy them online/instore. My work sees me travel most of Melbourne, so can pick up pretty much anywhere.

Ebay. I hv bought cheap controllers and some plastics accessories e.g. Steering wheels, guns. Prices are cheaper if you can wait for delivery from outside of Australia. Also consider getting a second hand set from EB Games which comes with controller although then you would have 2 sets of console.

If you're just looking at second hand anyway, and lets face it you're not going to go out and buy tons of games, look at soft-modding it. Very easy to do, and will help you get some life out of it :)

    • As to accessories, make sure there's 2 or 3 remotes, a few steering wheels, couple of guns, and you're good :) Maybe a classic controller (or even the HK knock-offs) for each as well. Don't bother with the 'Sports' packs, you won't use it often enough

  • steering wheels - $3 kmart

  • If you don't mind 2nd hand could go the gumtree route and ebay, but check out cash convertors or similar, can be quite cheap sometimes, even find some cheap gems, plus you'll often get a 7 or 30 day warranty for most games and hardware so if they don't work you can return them, more then what you get from gumtree and often less hassle then ebay.

  • You can get 2nd hand genuine Wii remotes for $18 and nun-chucks for $8 at your local EB games and would recommend those over new ones from Ebay for the same price anyday. Most of the cheap ones are knockoffs and simply won't last long. For $26 you'll have one player sorted out.

You can ask to look at the ones that they have in stock at your store to determine if they are original and the condition they are in before purchasing. Look for ones that aren't battered up too much and ask the staff if you're unsure on how to spot an original remote or nunchuck as they sell the aftermarket ones for the same price.

If the Wii ever breaks down, you can always sell the controllers and you'll have better chances of getting most of your money back compared to trying to sell aftermarket ones.
