Next Phone Candidate: Huawei Mate 8 - The World's Most Powerful Smartphone circa Jan 2016

Huawei has gone from nothing at all to (apparently) having the world's most powerful smartphone device that's also a definite looker and is my perfect screen size: 6" … in just 2 years. Gotta love China :D

RRP is probably about right: below Apple/Sammie but above the other also rans - it's Huawei's time to shine.

  • Don't look much different from Mate 7, I am not excited like when Mate 7 was launched.

  • +1

Until they start releasing source code on their in-house SoCs so that ROM developers are tempted to buy their devices, I'm not interested.

    • Exactly. I was considering Huawei for my latest phone but the skins they throw over Android just don't appeal to me. Seems to be common among Chinese handset manufacturers. Spec-wise they look fine though. I ended up with a 2015 Moto G just because I like the near-vanilla version of Android. Other people might not, that's cool too

      • Whack on Nova Launcher EX (I got it for 20c on special) and they fly.

You can also use Google Now launcher for a stock feel…

With Google Now available as an independent launcher, the skins issue is rather moot.

  • big problem i think is support, or 'impression of support'

i like to think that huawei have people who will release updates day to date with google or why the hell would i pay premium prices for a non premium brand

  • Will have to see how the Snapdragon 820 compares in a final device.
