Importing Supplements from iHerb - Possible?

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I'll give it a go here.

After that last iHerb sale, I noticed they sell hydrolyzed collagen for a fair price. I need it to combat a knee injury, but I do not have any official medical recommendation to do so (no letter, etc.) I know this product is already sold in Australia, as seen here and here.

I want to get it from iHerb since it's much cheaper. I couldn't find anything that may make this prohibited in the eyes of our customs, as it's commercially manufactured and packed and is intended for personal use only.

Also, in general, may I assume that any product that is being sold in Australia can in fact be privately imported? I know for instance Spyderco is sold in Australia. Can I just order the exact same one from Amazon?

Thanks.

  • over the counter in Australia should be ok to import.
Prescription drugs in Australia but OTC in US, they may get hijacked in customer. I have missed 3 of past orders for Melatonin like that.

    • hijacked in customer

      ?

    • Cheers, it's OTC, so I don't expect any issues.

  • I have iHerbed many orders where vitamin strengths have been removed from the market here and it comes in fine.

    • Cheers, I'll give it a shot.

  • I bought Great Lakes gelatin (the red label) last week from a health food shop, for just $3 more than iherb price. Check local first.

    • Yea, but I need the green label… Found it in only one online AU store, and it's $39 before shipping.

  • am I the only one that reads iHerb deals and thinks it's apple's version of weed?

    • Haha, no, that crossed my mind a long time ago. If it wasn't so famous, I'm sure customs would have bust it.

  • Importing herbal, vitamins, medicines, prescription only products from overseas that are not banned/illegal in Australia is allowed, only for personal use, as I understand Australia customs law.

    • Cheers for that. I did end up ordering it, although it was just slightly cheaper than AU stock.
