Display ALL Current Deals Before Expired Deals

Hi guys,

I was looking at the deals for Big W. To see all available deals I have to scroll past many Expired deals. This means it takes more time & effort to see what's on offer. Also, you're never sure if you've seen all available deals.

If all current deals were displayed before any Expired deals the site would be easier to use & more useful.

Thanks for considering to change this.

  • Try sorting by Post Date. This generally shows the relevant deals first…

    • It generally shows them mixed together which is why I made the suggestion.

So your saying all the deals for the day should be seen first, then all the current deals from yesterday, then all of yesterday's expired deals?

You can just search and tick that you don't want to see expired deals.

  • When you type in the search box for example Big W you are given the suggestion of Big W. Selecting that takes you to the Big W page. There is no option to hide expired deals. I'm using the mobile site, maybe Desktop is different?

    • Don't select the store from the drop down, press the magnifying glass so you run a text search. Then choose sort by date and deals (no expired) under nodes.

The store display is not great so I never choose it. It would be good to sort by date by default as "relevant" is rubbish.

        That is possible:

Change the search option to date or whatever you want the default as, then click 'save' with the floppy disk icon. That will update your default search options to whatever sort, type and category options you have selected. Image:

Awesome, thanks. Everytime I submit an idea to you guys to make the site better, I get shown that it is already an option. Whilst this is great work by you guys, I can only think that maybe the site layout, GUI or defaults might need to be reviewed so that it's more intuitive. That, or I am just a terrible user of the site!

Has a UX expert gone over the site recently?

        • @cymon:

Yeah good comment and points made. I think the OzBargain site has a lot of great features but we need to work on education and the user interface as it's not always obvious these functions and features exist.

We've discussed that a bit over the past year and tried to improve education with frontpage tips, help pages, forum posts and mod reminders within deals. I'll pass on the UX expert suggestion to scotty though as something we can look at.

          Thanks

        • Concur that the default is rubbish. Search by keyword and get expired listings from ages ago. Should default to recent date. Didnt know about the save icon.

  • To clarify, the OP is referring (in this example) to the Big W store page. Whilst you can hide expired deals when searching, you can't hide expired deals on these store pages.

I can pass on the suggestion to see if it's possible to implement something to hide expired deals on store pages, if this is something others would find useful? Whilst we wouldn't be able to change the posting order as it would lead to confusion, will find out if it's possible to have a checkbox or similar to 'hide expired deals' on the store pages - as we have on the deals page currently (top right corner).

    • that would be good
