Ideas for Anniversary Celebration?

Hi people - so this big day is almost arrived (this weekend) and i have no idea of what to do to celebrate it and make it slightly different to the usual dinner at a nice place thingie..

Location - melb
a couple with an infant under 1 year
budget: up to $500

would be interested in a 1 day outing or even an overnight stay in a good resort - should be worth the money.
Nice dinner and romantic getaway sort of thing.. have covered most of the famous tourist spots in VIC like GOR, philip island, mornington-franston strip etc..

Any suggestions would be really helpful? TIA

Can't recommend anywhere in particular but I would find someone to look after the baby so you can spend time/really talk with each other without having to tend to the baby.

    • Exactly, see if you can get your in-laws or bro/sis to help out. That's the arrangement I have with my sibling.

      • tahnks guys.. no family around so thats not an option..
having said that we would liek to take him along

  • What about Daylesford/Hepburn Springs? There are lots of nice places to stay and you can do something like this https://www.hepburnbathhouse.com/store/details/72/mineral-we…

    • Thanks looks like this is fo mon-fri.. will look in more details to see if weekend can eb covered//

  • Ye. Take her to the place where you guys had the first date. Will be cheap too. Killing two birds with one a dollar.

  • 2 ways for this:
    1) Incorporate your baby somehow, after all that is your new family now
    2) Have your baby looked after, so it's the 2 of you for your anniversary - more romantic, more likely to stay at a hotel or something.

Or 3) Do both. Have picnic lunch somewhere during the day, go to a playground (or if you're up to it, a play centre). Then have baby looked after that night, book a room somewhere and get room service, and enjoy the peace and quiet :)

    • I have to agree with this…

A night at Crown Towers or somewhere nice like that.

Can I ask what Anniversary this is? How many years?

I'd start by organising a baby sitter for the night. Do this ASAP. Then book a room at Crown Towers Or somewhere similar.

During the day go for a nice walk in the park all 3 of you then head home, leave the bub with the sitter.

Then go out for dinner somewhere really nice, then retreat back to your hotel room and enjoy each others company.

Warning: The above may result in more babies arriving so be prepared if you don't want that… :P

Also this will probably cost slightly more than $500…

I'd suggest to not worry too much about the budget as it is a special night for you unless money is really tight right now.

      • The above may result in more babies arriving so be prepared if you don't want that… :P

Lol I was gonna say that :P

Also this will probably cost slightly more than $500…

That's why I thought room service :) especially being kid-free, it's kinda nice just kicking back and enjoying some peace and quiet

      • Thanks.. its going to be 9 years marriage anniversary…
till now i was looking at Crown Towers and Langam and they both were upward of $700

i think crown metropol is an option… as its slightly cheaper.. and yeah if its slightly more I think i should eb ok..

        • Checked Entertainment Book discounts?

        • don't have the book with me :(

        • @Spackbace: and Qantas - they sometimes have specials for Crown…

and if your corporate travel desk is an option, maybe ask if they can get you a better deal.

        • @coolhead:

Have the gold card in your wallet?

Actually doesn't matter because it needs your login, just go here. Shouldn't need your card on check-in

        • till now i was looking at Crown Towers and Langam and they both were upward of $700

Friday - Saturday is $420 at Crown Towers

        • Just looking on there now for Saturday night.

          Crown Towers - $718
          Langham - $549
          Metropol - $304
          Hilton - $250
          Marriott - $329

        • @Spackbace:
ahh.. so u suggesting i buy the booklet now and then avail the vouchers…
if yes, yeah that a good idea..

        • @coolhead:

Only if you're going to use it! If you can find >$50 value out of it, then definitely :)

Don't forget there's an app as well, up to you which you find more handy

@Spackbace: $223 at Metropol on Friday or Sunday, if coolhead is flexible with days.

        • @Spackbace: What about the Windsor? $328, more old school

  • We really liked Crown Metropol. They have a really lovely infinity pool. Your baby will love it too.

I won't recommend their spa, because their front desk seemed quite aloof and unhelpful and the reviews aren't that good.

Their restaurant, Mesh is quite kid-friendly for dining and their buffet is quite good value (better with Entertainment Book).

    • Thanks for the suggestion… will look into this one..
overall i think crown or daylesford might be an option as we were looking into these earlier…

      Thanks heaps everyone..

Food Star in Sunshine. Your partner will never forget the night.

    • Thanks for the suggestion :)

      • Just for clarity I was being cheeky. Please don't book at Food Star.

        • Oh gosh I went there once and never again :S

        • Haha… Thanks chumlee

    • Yeah you will be reminded of it for the rest of your life and your next post on here will be "cheap divorce lawyer suggestions ?"

  • I took the missus to Crystal Creek Rainforest Retreat for our 10y anniversary (near gold coast / tweed valley). It won't be for you this year (as it's really expensive, not kid friendly, and booked out about 4-6 months in advance) but think about it for next year. We went 3 nights and probably cost us $3k incl flights, car, and accom.

  • @airzone : yeah that's a bit expensive for the moment. That would need some planning but yeah maybe next year. Cheers

  • Highly recommend the Langham. Our 10th anniversary was a few weeks ago and we spent 2 nights there and went to the highly recommended Food and Wine Company for dinner one of the nights (other night just had bar food, drinks and casino).

We paid $168.55 per night at the Langham and I have stayed once before for about this rate. This is because they have a price guarantee (http://www.langhamhotels.com/en/best-rate-guarantee). Not only will they match the cheapest price but they will give you another 25% off as well. On both occasions I was able to find a cheaper price. It is a very special hotel for a celebration. If you manage to find a sitter for the young one also recommend 28 Skybar Lounge for a drink on the balcony of the 28th floor of the Metropol (http://www.crownhotels.com.au/crown-metropol-melbourne/28-sk…).

    Have a great time!
