Getting a refund for work boots?

Hi. I bought a pair of steel caps workboots about seven months ago and over this time, it has had some cracks/hole appear on the top surface at the point where the foot bends as you walk. At work, I often have to work in a semi wet environment, and my feet are getting wet whenever water gets splashed on near the hole.

Should I go back to the store and ask for a refund or replacement? Is it likely to be dismissed as wear and tear as it is for work purpose? I do work mostly indoors and need to squat down sometimes to lift things and perform other parts of my duties. I have only purchased them in June last year, and it cost about $180, so I expected them to last a lot longer. The brand is Bata btw. Thanks.

I agree with oscar above. A good company will fix any manufacturing defect.

I have some Blundstones, the sole was made of soft rubber and virtually disintegrated! I couldn't believe it.

Blundstones didn't replace it as I didn't have the receipt. No more Blundstones for me.

Ha. I have a pair with the same issue. The sole just got super soft and pieces fell off.
The upper still looks brand new.
I buy Redbacks now. Aussie made and very comfortable. Have lasted very well so far.

      • I thought it could only be a one off. Yup my leather bits look brand new also.

To top it off, Blundstones even refused to replace them without a receipt.

Awesome way to ruin your brand!

  • Been there done that with the Blundstones as well - so I went to Redbacks as well.
All good for 2 years with minimum use til I got to San Francisco in July 2015.
Upstairs to the hotel room flopped on the bed after the flight then went to pull off my boots (non safety).
Pulled the sole off and just looked on in tired disbelief.
Luck I had a pair of sandals with me.
So I am open to any suggestions.

    • Are you saying your Redbacks stuffed up also?

  • Yes - still annoyed about it
