Moving from Soft to Hard Tubing in Watercooling Loop

Hi all,

Looking for thoughts, comments, and experiences..

I am considering changing out my water tubing from flex PVC to hard tubing. No real reason other than to gain some experience working with it, and I feel like spending some time to improve the look of my PC internals (I'll probably look at a modular PSU and custom cables & sleeving next).

I think that I could go down 2 routes - clear PETG with a dyed coolant, or powdercoated copper. I don't have the tools for either at the moment (i.e. a pipe bender or heat-gun) and the cost would be similar.

Copper:
Pro: Unusual
Pro: Can powdercoat to any colour - probably matt red or matt black
Con: Possibly dump heat into the PC (refer to Linus Tech Tips whole room water cooling - although I would use a magnitude less copper than those fools)
Con: Pipe corners might be a little less inflexible in their design using the pipe bender

PETG:
Pro: Might be more flexible doing tighter curves, or complex shapes due to being easier to work with
Pro: Can dye the coolant using vibrant colours and flashy appearances.. By case colour scheme is quite muted though.
Con: It's fairly common
Con: It's harder to get - if I stuff it up, I have to wait for PCCG to send me more.. Copper is available at Bunnings.

An example of both (plus a pic of my PC before I spent more time tidying up the cables)

    Fool, just leave it alone

  • I prefer the PETG,

    How much all round system?
    whats connected in your loop?

    • cpu, gpu, 2 x radiators (200x200 + 180x360), and a reservoir / pump unit.

  • I'd stick with soft tubing simply because they are easier to bend. If you always do 90 degree angles for hard tubing, you increase the distance the water has to travel.

Hypotenuse is shorter then the two sides combines.

  • Anyone know of any deals for the ek or xspc kits??
