Things to Do in Queenstown NZ on Cheap - Ideas?

I would appreciate any tips and ideas on what to do in Queenstown that will not ruin us. Most mainstream attractions boat ride, bungee, rafting are at least $150+ pp

I'm off this Friday for 6 nights and beside flights and accommodation I don't really have much organised, but this is so far I've come up with:

Ben Lomond waling track (1 day)
hire bicycle and do one day trip around lake etc

Thanks for any input

https://www.bookme.co.nz/bookings/queenstown/home - from my experience, this website is pretty good for finding last minute cheap stuff.

If you are into mountain biking I would suggest hiring a downhill mountain bike and heading up the gondola to the queenstown mountain bike park, a lot of fun, kind of expensive but worth it.

Drinking cheap whiskey on the foreshore is also a thing.

Queenstown is a hard one to do on the cheap..

The luge is also fun, cant remember the price though.

Jetboating is fun but once again, expensive.

    • thanks bookme looks promising

    • .. yes bookme is the way to go.. group of 4.. we pre-purchased deals before we left .. Saved heaps.. Enjoyed a lot!!

Ferg burger - Not cheap but is a must and you wont regret it

That and the bakery. I want a Ferg Burger now damnit

      • Gotta say, if the burger place is too busy, the bakery is a very close second place if that! Pork belly pie :)

  • Queenstown is a town you only go to for extreme sports - jet boating, sky diving, bungee jumping, skiing…

    …none of which is cheap.

Why are you going if you aren't doing those things? would be better off touring around the Milford Sound or heading somewhere else in the South Island for some decent hikes etc.

got free flight tickets and accommodation

      • So spend a bit of money on doing the true fun stuff in Queenstown. The Shotover Jet is brilliant, as is the black water tubing/kayaking (I think that's what its called - you kayak or tube raft into these small caves).

        • The jet is on my list and I'll check out the black water thing. Cheers

      • more importantly, how did you get the free tickets?

        • got lucky, ruffle.

  • Queenstown Hill Walkway (1.5-3h return) - great views of the town, lake and surrounding mountains.
Frisbee golf in Queenstown Gardens - free if you take your own frisbees.
    Skyline Luge
    Ice skating

  • Go down to Milford Sound - the scenery on the way there is almost as spectacular as the Sound itself (it's actually a Fjord). If you go on the luge don't use the brakes for the best fun.
