Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz SODIMM RAM 1.5v $55 Inc. Shipping @ Shopping Express

110

Hi everyone,

Noticed this when I was checking Shopping express for the Epic Hour deals. Seemed like a pretty good price to me, so thought I'd share it. I know a few others aside from me have been waiting for SE to do a deal on 8GB SODIMM for a while.

Note this is 1.5V - Please check compatibility using Hwinfo or CPU-Z

http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Kingston+8GB+DD… - see comparative prices here. Free post is what makes this deal.

Ends roughly 20 hours from now. Get in quick, stock usually goes fast from these guys!

  • Can the voltage be lowered to make is run at a lower temperature?

    • if BIOS supports this. yes (i think),

    • It depends on the BIOS of the laptop. Many modern BIOS' are VERY simplified and do not have options to manually adjust memory Voltage.

It also depends how much you want to drop the voltage. Generally it is not recommended to drop the voltage below the rated specification, especially if you aren't 100% sure what you are doing. Dropping the voltage too low will lead to stability issues and may even cause permanent damage to the RAM and or void warranty.

Most budget SODIMM (and desktop) memory isn't very flexible with voltage changes.

      • mY dv7 is 2012 but doesn't have this option in bios. shoot.

        • Yeah, HP BIOS are absolutely woeful. Technicians nightmare :3

  • Not compatible with many notebooks made after 2013. Best to check if your laptop currently uses DDR3 or DDR3L.

    Read the Dell KB
    http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN153768/EN

The vendor of your laptop may have a BIOS that blocks DDR3 memory — even though they physically fit, it might not boot.

It should be OK to use on a Sandy Bridge laptop, but for Ivy Bridge ULV, Haswell and Broadwell processors, including the lower end Celeron 'N' series, will require DDR3L memory.

  • plus. low voltage is not compatible with normal chips.

would be cool if this was Mac compatible, but i doubt it

  • Doesn't it come down to support by the motherboard/specific model?

From what little research I've done on the matter, mainly the Netbooks and low end laptops will take exclusively the 1.35V Low voltage sticks.

I've installed 1.5V sticks in at least one recent HP satellite that also supported 1.35V

The world of "official support" for Memory of all configurations is extremely convoluted and confusing. I've been working on PC's for the last 10 years and I've lost count of the amount of times I've had experiences that directly contradict the official (and unofficial) documentation of Memory support.

  • thanks for sharing the link OP, just wanted to say that I got low voltage RAM today from MSY the price was pretty good. They had both low voltage and the normal voltage for laptops for 58$

Installed it tested it and works really well on my Asus x555 with 6th gen Skylake i7 Processor.

Here is the link if you want to get it. Cheers

  • One module of 8GB, not 2 x 4 GB in case anyone was wondering.

It's Australian Dollars $55, not US $55 in case anyone was wondering as well.

  • Will this work in my 2010 imac? Theoretically it should. Anyone had any experience with using this in Macs?

This is a very expensive deal! They could do better. How about Shopping Express beats Amazon and MSY like they had it for around $45 yesterday?
Anyway it is much cheaper than this if you check Staticice: http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=8gb+ddr3+&s…

    • Mate, this is for SODIMM (aka laptop memory) which is more expensive than the regular Desktop RAM :)

Also have to factor in the cost of postage. As I'm sure any regular user of Staticice knows most of those shops keep the listing low to get people going to their site, then charge insane prices for postage ($30+)

Thanks for the effort but Your post got 10 votes in 2 days! That's self explanatory.
Guess I know a bit of IT and shop online most of times.
If you work for them, maybe read my comment and come up with a deal you'd increase it to 200 votes?

        • haha you've got it all figured out don't you mate

  • $58 at MSY…grabbed some today…$3 for local warranty is a better deal :)

    • True, although many of us don't have an MSY close by.

Not sure I've ever heard MSY and warranty mentioned in the same sentence without a string of swear words either xD
