Phone Words ordered then snapped up by Telstra

Hi guys,

Just after your opinions as I found myself extremely sceptical of the circumstances.

I ordered a 1300 number from the ACMA website to which I received an invoice pending payment via email.

I was at work at the the time and got distracted for 10 minutes. I went to log back in and locked myself out of my account due to several incorrect password attempts (requires 10 character password being a government site).

I subsequently called customer service for password reset and logged back in after a further 10 minutes. I then get an email saying the number is no longer available.

When I do a search I find that Telstra phone words snapped it up which I find extraordinary.

What's the chances of this phone word which has been available for 10+ years being searched for and purchased by Telstra at around the same time?

Anyone else think this is a bit too coincidental?

  • No its pretty standard, however since Telstra was sold, they have cut back on staff so they arent as quick as they were before. Previously they would snap it up if they detected you were looking at the phone number, now they wait until you select it, then they pounce.

They have a dedicated conspiratorial team, that does these things as well as other anti consumer things. :)

  • I understand they can do this from their own site but how can they from a government website ACMA?

    • They have moles inside ACMA, remember they were both government trained organisations. ;)

  • were you on thenumberingsystem.com.au?

did you use any online tools on another site to work out what words translated into different numbers?

what you've described shouldn't be possible.

  • Didn't enter the number on any other site. If I did I understand there are mining sites. This is too coincidental.

    • might want to complain to acma or the tio
