Virgin's Fare Promise

Ok so 3 weeks ago I booked 2 tickets on Virgin Australia website HBA-SYD for a flight in February for $132 each. Today on Virgin's Happy Hour I see the same flights for $99 each. No problem I think- I remember VA have a thing called Fare Promise-I see it every time I go to their website. "The best deals on our fares across Australia. That's our fare promise." So I jump on the website ready to claim. Haha what a con-they don't match their own fares. They only match 3rd party websites- and the claimant has to jump through multiple hoops to prove their claim. And for what? So VA can MATCH the fare and give you 500 FF points. What a joke. So much for booking in advance!

After looking at the incredibly restrictive T&Cs and Eligibility Criteria for Fare Promise, I doubt that anyone has ever successfully claimed. Anyone out there ever claimed??

You booked the tickets when they were $132 each so you were clearly happy to accept that pricing, now the fares are currently $99 each during the happy hour and you want to match that price with something purchased 3 weeks ago?

I don't really think you have grounds to request such a thing to be honest.

If you have a credit card that offers Price Guarantee then maybe try.

The prices for the flights (even the same flights) vary on different days..

eg, if there's lots of seats left on a flight that's getting close the travel date, they may drop the price to try fill the plane or if there's a high demand for a particular flight, the may increase the price.

Any price matches or guarantees will be "at the time of booking".. not days or weeks later. (Hence, there is no such thing as matching their own prices..).

It seems their Fare Promise is pretty worthless:

    • Well seeing as Happy Hour is run by Virgin itself you have no chance what so ever with a Price Promise from Virgin.

Heck it even says "Virgin claims it will match the prices of its own flights if they are cheaper on a third-party website" in the link you just provided.

You were happy to pay $132 at the time of booking.

you booked at Date X, the price went down, bet if it went up you wouldn't complain.
