Can You Suggest a Low-Usage Tablet Plan?

I am thinking of getting a cheap android tablet for a specific work application, and this app needs a data connection. One of the places I work doesn't have Wifi so I would need a data sim for the tablet. This is all a bit new to me.

Given that I will be only using the tablet for this purpose - and I don't know how much data it uses but it is pretty minimal, and I would only be in that location for 6 hours a week - can someone suggest a good data plan? For instance, I see that ALDI have a $15 pay as you go with 5c a MB (https://www.aldimobile.com.au/plans/15payg)

Thanks!

The Aldi plan you mentioned is probably pretty good for you as the credit is valid for 365 days.
Alternatively if you need more than 1GB of data per year, look at the Telstra long-life data pack: 5GB for $50.

You could start with the Aldi one and see how much data you do actually end up using, then switch to the Telstra one if you are using a higher amount.

Do keep an eye on what is actually using data though. I found with my phone that occasionally "Android system" would suddenly use a couple of hundred megabytes for no apparent reason, so I restricted that app from using mobile data.

Use the data from your phone and create a wifi hotspot.

  • Thanks for your useful suggestions. Although my first thought was to use tethering, it's a drag remembering to turn it on and off (especially as it toggles WiFi). I think I might go with the Aldi plan, although the Telstra $50 annual pass = 5GB for 1 year https://www.telstra.com.au/tablets/prepaid-for-tablets is a strong contender. All depends on how much data i need…
