Where do we find Australia Post postal area categories?

I'm trying to find out if where i live is considered a metro area but I can't find anything on Australia post's website which lists the categories.

  • I don't think they actually list them. For what reason do you need to know if you are classed as metro or regional? The only service I can see it affecting is Courier Post. Pricing is the same for all other products, there can just be a bit more of a delay receiving mail/parcels if you are regional.

  • It can be hard to find info on the Aust Post website but I'm 88% sure I've seen a table somewhere. I'll search for you when I get home.

Letter rates are the same Australia wide, but Parcel rates my vary because of remoteness (e.g. FNQ and WA outback).

    You could try this:
Go to http://auspost.com.au/, select the Calculate Postage link and:
    1) enter 2000 in the From field and 3000 in the To field (i.e. Sydney to Melbourne) and see what the rate is
    2) enter 2000 in the From field and your postcode in the To field.

  • Google (your capital city) metro area?

Seems to work when you google Perth metro area.

  • I'm looking to buy a chair from OfficeMax and they have free shipping to all metro areas but they've listed every post code in Canberra as regional

If I had a list of some sort from Australia Post I could link it to them and ask them to give me free shipping

Canberra is categorised by Australia Post as other New South Wales (N2). So it's not a metro area.
If they are using Australia Post, they probably offer free postage in metro areas because the postage cost is constant between 500g - 22kg if the item being sent and being delivered in the same capital city

    • Thanks! this is what I was looking for!

Sorry Chukkii, I said I'd find this table for you but I got sick.

        Thanks Durd0008 for providing it.
