Any deals on home and contents insurance?

I'm currently with AAMI; but each year around renewal time I check around for any deals that might be worth switching for :-)

  • Woolies have a $100 gift card with home insurance. Can check if it suits your needs.

    • Thanks, will look now!

  • Interestingly I'm still $150 cheaper with AAMI, and the excess with AAMI is a better option for me at $300 instead of $500 with Woolworths; plus I have complete replacement cost of the home with AAMI.

    • Complete replacement cost is what is keeping us with AAMI, nobody else seems to offer this.

      • youi tells me that it's better to have an agreed value, as it may not cover what you think it does.
That said, youi just wasted 30 minutes of my time on the phone and quoted me $1200 which is insanely expensive compared to others.

  • try a quote with BudgetDirect or AusPost - both are using same insurer (Auto & General), same website layout, just different branding.

    • DON'T ever choose Budget Direct - yes their prices are low but their products are close to useless. They are unlikely to cover your losses in the unfortunate event of you having to make a claim, and then they will no longer cover you since having made a claim you will fall into the category of unacceptable risk. This then means that you will have to apply to subsequent insurers with an "uninsurable" strike against your name, and consequently will be subject to higher premium prices.

      • do you have evidence to back up this comment?

        • Yes - I have recently gone through it! Unfortunately. Obviously I can't extrapolate this to every single other policy they have sold to every single other customer. However, I was informed by a customer service rep for the company that having made a claim (landlord insurance - for loss of rent, and for malicious damage) I was now no longer insurable, and that this was due to the underwriter's requirements.
BTW - it cost us about $16K to repair the property trashed by the tenants, and we lost about 9 months of rental income (including their rental default time plus time taken to repair) and received about $4K from our claim). Yes I did read the product disclosure statement very carefully and yes we were insured adequately in terms of amount insured, but we were very disappointed with the company's assessment of the claim.

        • thanks for the reply, and sorry to hear about your situation.
I don't use them myself, but did get a quote off them last time around and they were a good price.
May drop them from next year's lookups.

  • My renewal bill coming up as well. Is there any other good deals around?
