How to Get a Cheap Second Hand Trailer in Sydney Please?

Mum is disabled and need to live with us for about one year until she is fully recovered.

I need to get lots cheap Gumtree furnitures and White Goods to fill the whole house as our old furniture are not worth getting transferred.

How about a unregistered trailer on Gumtree? Can they been easily registered? Will 6*5 big enough for transferring king bed, three seater etc?

Which one will be more practical? Caged Trailer or box Trailer?

I have seen this post:

"Borrow" One form bunnings will be a bit too hard for me…

Anyone know if I can transfer king bed 76 in × 80 in in a 6 by 4 trailer in NSW or I'ed better get a 7 by 5 trailer?

The cheapest 7 by 5 trailer I can find is it:

Anything cheaper than that? I am happy with seconds.

  • Why not just rent a small budget truck

Or hire a trailer on Gumtree.

    • I do not drive manual…

      • You can get them in Automatic

        • Bunnings do not have auto, the closest one have auto would be Dee why, however autos are very hard to get on weekends.

Trailers are impossible to get cheap, but the good news is they maintain their value. Buy a second hand 6x4 or 7x5 (the most common sizes). Anticipate some surface rust, but skip anything where the rust is too bad.
Trailers don't require pinks slips if they are 250kg or less, which is the case with these small box trailers, however, they do need an inspection to re-register if the rego has lapsed. I haven't done it, but I understand the inspection is reasonably stringent, so I would not contemplate buying an unregistered trailer unless you were mechanically competent, could weld and had time on your hands.
A 2nd hand trailer bought privately for $500 today will sell for $500 in a year or two time, and the registration annual fee is cheap, about $58.
I furnished my house via Gumtree and a 6x4 trailer without problems (getting the fridge up the stairs on my own took some ingenuity).
Buy a movers trolley for $30 at supercheap auto as well, and things will got much easier.

    • Thanks so much for your reply.

Did you get a box trailer or a cage trailer?

Do you think that the box trailer can extend a bit to carry king bed, however cage trailers can not?

box. As you guess, you can strap something big across the box trailer. Some cage trailers have the cage easily lifted off, but I don't think they justify the extra cost.

A shame you can't go to Bunnings… I often buy a length of decking or something cheap (and long) and then use the FREE courtesy trailer from Bunnings for 2 hrs :P

    • Bunnings Belrose said they do not do that. I do not want to argue with them.

Couldn't you simply hire a trailer from the servo when you need one?

  • Cage would be practical for sure, because there are no height limits, just watch the road and dont drive into parking lots.

There are plenty for rent on gumtree.

    Drive safe!

On a side note, if your mum only need to live with you for a year, why u need a king size bed and 3 seater? Try searching for something smaller, IKEA-ish, or even buy new from IKEA.

    • I need to sleep in the same bed with her after her surgery as she might feel hard to go to the toilet on her own.

If I need to work that night, my husband will sleep on the 3 seater. He is a tall men.

    • How about a box trailer so that I can be extended a bit to fit king bed?

      • Sorry I haven't used one myself, don't wanna give you wrong advice. Good luck.

  • Does anyone believe that it is a good buy?

    hello
if you are around hurstville u can take mine .. barter me something !

This is the best advice. The best trailer is a "mates" trailer you can borrow a few times per year. in exchange for a 6 pack!

It is so kind of you:)

I am on the northern beaches so that will be too far for me.
