Mobile data and phone for short term music streaming

A friend is in hospital for the moment, so i thought I'd get them a month of mobile data + music streaming service so they're not bored.

It seems like data plans are all quite similar. Is 2.5gb enough to stream music for a fortnight (not constantly).

Is there a particular company anyone recommends?
Is there a particular music streaming service that would be easier for an older person to use?
Will the cheapest Android phones be able to handle this ok? Is there a particular phone anyone recommend for music streaming? (One i can go buy today or tomorrow?)

Thanks

Why not just give them a phone with a storage card full of music?
    No data plan required.

    • I think that would be easier, but I don't think I have any music that they would like

I dont know what hospital they are in, but I've spent a fair whack of time visiting a relative in the Alfred hospital, and FYI - their optus coverage is pretty woeful in the ward. Its OK for browsing/chat as it doesnt require a constant stream of data, but it drops in/out pretty frequently.

    • It's the Austin. I used my data connection in there and it seemed ok, but I didn't stream music so I should probably check that. But they are in a room on the side of the building so probably have the best chance for a good connection

  • There's internet access from the TV's in hospitals too.
Might just be worth paying for that.

    • Thanks, I'll ask about that

      • and depending on their health insurance, some cover it, pretty sure medibank covered wifi access for hospital stays

data7d in the table referenced there, they could just text this a few times instead of changing multiple T&O starter pack:

    Coverage: metro area

    • Thanks, this looks good
