  • So, just the charger on its own then?

    • The charger isn't the only issues. If the batteries are poorly made then fireworks. It starts smoking about 2 minutes in.

I was just being a smart-ass. "Just the charger on its own then…"

It has come to our attention that several false and fraudulent claims are being made on Chinese websites by various companies called QA Testing Technology Company Ltd, Ningbo Carters Detection Technology Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Carters Detection Technology Co., Ltd. that they are an SAA representative and that the website saa.org.cn is the official website for SAA in China. This is incorrect and fraudulent. These companies are not authorised to act as an agent for SAA Approvals and may not represent our company. The ONLY place to obtain an SAA certificate is at www.saaapprovals.com.au and we do not have any employees or agents outside of Australia. These companies have simply stolen our name and are making false claims. We regard any public statement by this company about Australian approvals to be incorrect. We have asked the Chinese authorities to stop this practice without success.
We remind our clients to ensure that they obtain genuine JAS-ANZ-endorsed certificates and be wary of companies fraudulently claiming to be SAA in China.

I doubt this board has approval. As it can be found cheaper, and I'm throwing doubt on the approval, it's a neg from me!

  • Saw a few teens pulled over by the cops today. Good luck taking this anywhere.

  • This worries me…

ECO LIGHT IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INJURIES OR HARM CAUSED AS A RESULT OF IMPROPERLY OR OTHERWISE USING THE SMART GLIDER.

So basically, they claim they are not taking any responsibility even if you use it properly…

You and many other 'entrepreneurs' thought you could import these hot new items into Australia for $300 a piece, sell them for $700 and make $400 on each one.

You put $8000 on the line a few months ago, got them here by ship to save postage costs.

You'll sell a few, making less than you first planned after overlooking many of the costs involved in selling them.

The fad will be over because they're illegal or because too many of them have exploded for people to be interested.

Result, you have made back $1500 of your $8000, and you have a garage full of them you can't sell.

    Sorry guys.

  • Electrical Chargers must be tested, approved and certified to Australian standards prior being offered for sale. Genuine SAA certification is evidence of electrical safety and compliance to safety standards.

    • +3

So show us the certificate then.

    • Your adapters maybe Genuine SAA Certified, but is the 'hoverboard' device SAA Certified. I believe from all the explosions, the issue isn't with the AC Adapter it is with the actual hoverboard which doesn't have the necessary safety mechanisms for example to stop charging when full or to watch for temperature spikes.

Its like a laptop charger, AC Adapter actually doesn't do anything other than provide a stable voltage, its the laptop which has all the mechanisms to prevent over charging or to turn off charging when it is too hot.

Our genuine Samsung batteries have over charge protection to protect them.

        • So show us the certificate then. Sometime not the overchage protection , it is the battery itself get too hot and burn.

    • +1

The chargers one component. What guarantee is there in the rest of the unit…the bit people will actually be standing on.

  • does this model burn houses down?

    • No but i believe that you can buy that model on Ebay.

      • +1

do if this model burns down a house anywhere in australia you will be happy to reimburse them for any damages?

      • What guarantee will you provide that your product will not catch fire?

        • We purchase our products from reputable Australian businesses who like us have the appropriate insurances to cover a catastrophic failure. All products are inspected prior sale and we ensure that all certificates are current with the relevant documentation behind them.

        • @ecolightled:

          reputable Australian businesses

I can think of exactly none that are selling 'hoverboards'

        • @Spackbace: toyrsus. Surprisingly one of the few and cheapest ones which had zero recall required.

Or buy a $50 scooter. Is it really that hard to push your foot every 20 meters?

  • Anything that bundles a lithium based battery with poor electronics is obviously a huge fire risk. These batteries are super dangerous once they catch on fire.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCGtRgBUHX8

That being said, these vehicles look like great fun. If they were more reasonably priced and safe as any other lithium battery based device, I'd have a crack.

  • SO the adapter MAY be certified, is the BMS in the battery set to the correct low voltage cut off? the batteries brand, model, original? wiring up to spec gauge wise, is it incapable of causing a short? is the charge circuit adjusted to the correct cut off voltage.
All of the above can cause a LiPo pack to catch fire.

  • We pay more for our boards than sellers on Ebay are offering them for, perhaps they do not have genuine batteries with over charge protection, the appropriate sized and approved chargers, quality alloy chassis and people that are prepared to invest the time and effort to ensure they offer a quality product.

    • +1

So show us the certificate then.

      • All of our boards are shipped with a copy of the SAA approval.

        • post a link to the PDF

        • +3

Your reputation is going to be completely destroyed here. I'm a store rep myself and I've learnt the hard way what happens when you dodge important questions such as this. Scan a copy of the SAA approval and show us as there are plenty of fake ones. I've seen plenty in my time working with a Chinese company.

If we take your word for it and our houses burn down, loved ones lost… it's going to lead back to you guys and your promise of it being SAA approved…..

        • +1

Thank you for your feedback link to the SAA certificate below.

        • @ecolightled: Great that you have certificates for the AC ADAPTER! But often an AC adapter doesn't cause the explosions as they don't really have many circuitry, they just convert high voltage to low voltage.

Therefore it is quite misleading that you are saying this product is completely safe when you have basically certified the least risk portion of the product.

Does your actual hoverboard have the necessary safety certifications? That's the actual part that determines if it needs to keep charging or to cut off charge.

Do they comply and have certificates for UN 38.3, UL 1642 and UL 60950-1?
Amazon is making sure any hoverboards on their website comply to UN 38.3, UL 1642 and UL 60950-1

  • so can we just make it that these things are banned from Ozbargain ?

    • +1

May as well they are rapidly getting banned every where else :)

  • Seriously though OP, fix the spelling and grammar. I refuse to buy from people who can't spell, it's just embarrassing.

  • They don't sell a model with flames down the sides but if you own one for long enough it will!

  • aliexpress?

whats the legalities in nsw with these ?

  • In all states but QLD they can only be ridden legally on private property.

    • -1

      Big market then?

  • I wonder how many accounts have been disabled today? lol
