Short Layover in Sydney

Hi All,

Appreciate any advice. Wife and I get in to Sydney at on Saturday at about 10pm on an international flight and then fly out the next morning domestically at 8am.

Anyone recommend best place to stay / rest for the night? Don't expect to do anything other than sleep and don't want to spend too much $$ seeing as we won't be there long.

thanks,

  • Hi,

http://www.captaincookhotel.com.au/accommodation-botany/ is located in nearby Botany.
    (Q: Can I arrive late?)
(A: Yes, please give us a call if you're wanting to arrive after 9pm).

If it is just overnight, have a look at:

(Again, ring them about late Check-in, I think they have a "Use Card to Check-in" at this location.

I stayed at the Captain Cook a few years back after attending a function with an early flight out… Simple, clean and comfortable room for an overnight service, less than $15 cab from the airport. Staff were friendly and helpful.

rydges is at the airport (international carport area)
around 200 bucks pre book so aint cheap but close

    • The Rydges is alright - free shuttle to domestic (or just use the Qantas or Virgin shuttle if you have a domestic boarding pass).

While $200 - no need for a taxi as it is a 2 min suitcase haul from the terminal.

AirBNB? Just stay at a local's house, they are usually flexible with arrival/departure times if they live there. Should be much cheaper than a hotel too.

The terminal isn't too uncomfortable, I've spent a good chunk of time waiting for a flight sleeping on the floor.

by the time you get your luggage (from an international flight), get to the hotel, check in, settle down for the night it will be around midnight. then you've got to get up and get to the airport, check in by 7am, have something to eat….

      hang out at the airport.

there is an ibis walking distance for about 100-140 bucks, is basic but does job
10 min walk, book on expedia has free cancellation if plans change.
    i stay alot here.

  • Consider sleeping at the airport. By the time you stuff around you will probably only get 4 -5 hourssleep max. Expensive nap.

Good idea but Sydney airport is not 24/7

      • Really? Well that sinks my idea….

        • Yep, 11pm curfew for flights into Sydney

  • There are plenty of airport hotels from all the major international chains surrounding the airport.

While others above have pointed out the curfew there is in fact an overnight seating area near the train station at the international terminal. You can only stay there if you can present a flight ticket for departure the next morning however.
