Every 5th ad on TV is for some vitamin/supplement. Must be extremely profitable.

I can't watch TV for four minutes without thinking I have five serious diseases.
Like: "Do you ever wake up tired in the morning?"
Oh my god I have this, write this down. Whatever it is, I have it.
Half the time I don't even know what the commercial is:
people running in fields or flying kites or swimming in the ocean.
I'm like that is the greatest disease ever. How do you get that?
That disease comes with a hot chick and a puppy

It's a premium that you pay for a "trusted" Australian branded. Blackmores does not declare where its supplements are made and where its ingredients are sourced. There is nothing on the label on this.

    • +1

well, there's no room left on the label after they've finished printing all the claims as to how this horse sh1t powder might help you.

    • +1

I'm not sure why you care about where a supplement or vitamin that does nothing comes from.

If it comes from Australia it does nothing. If it comes from anywhere else it also does nothing.

It's reckless to say that supplements do nothing. One of many examples that I can quote is the use of folic acid supplements for pregnant women. Doctors recommend increased intake of folate for pregnant women but often it is difficult to measure how much folate you get out of your diet so taking folic acid supplements is recommended.

vitamin d supplementation is also beneficial. most people are probably deficient and vitamin d influences heaps of your genes. studies suggest that sufficient blood serum levels are correlated with reduced risk of several types of cancer.

and if you are a vegan getting sufficient b12 will be a concern

Thank goodness there's the ABC - 'The Checkout' was the best program on TV.
Not enough people watch it and 'The Gruen' to realise just how gullible consumers are.
Hopefully, both are returning this year.

      • And of course the most prevalent mistake amongst the gullible as you put it is the belief that they themselves are immune for no rational reason at all.

        • The rationale is that once you recognise the trap, you can avoid it.

Subsequently, it is a choice, eg. Christmas shopping before Boxing Day, buying a car at initial release, Coke vs Pepsi, female talcum powder, etc.

('The Gruen' panel of advertisers seem excessively smug and confident, IMO. Sorry, not everyone swallows their art.)

      • What did these programs show? Wouldn't mind checking them out, are they available online? I'm assuming youtube or abc, but I'm at work unfortunately so I cant check.

        • +1

The Checkout is a consumer affairs type of show.

The Gruen/Transfer is a show where advertising is discussed.

Many people are under the mistaken belief that if they know how an advertisement works then they turn into special case and it no longer works on them because they're so amazingly rational or something that it no longer works. They are incorrect.

        • @Diji1:

'The Checkout' is a slightly lighthearted, yet deserves to be taken more seriously. I guess they have a demographic to consider.

Always seek medical advice before taking supplements. They won't counter your doritos addiction.

  • Thank you
