Looking for car that has a speed limiter

Hi,
I've been driving a Renault Megane and like its feature "speed limiter"
Which other maker / models have this feature?

speed limiters can be set by the driver to any desired speed; So I set it to 60kph and even if I press the gas pedal to the floor the car will not go past 60kph.
I am a capable driver but find this feature useful as speed limits change so many times and it helps you avoid speeding fines.
I adjust the speed just like you might on a bike when you see a hill ahead and you change a gear in preparation.

    • Agreed they are quite useful

  • While in Europe we hired a Nissan Infinite or something, their luxury sedan. It had one.

  • My girlfriend had a 2002 Mercedes c200 kompressor that had that feature. I found it really odd when I drove her car cause it wouldn't let me go pass whatever speed she had set it at.

  • This feature confused the hell out of me when I accidentally engaged it on my new Hyundai i40 on the way home from the dealer. As I tried to accelerate moving from a 60 zone to an 80 zone, the car refused to increase in speed, and I thought I had an engine/etc malfunction. I pulled over, had a look at all the dashboard indications, and realised what was going on.

I actually liked the feature once I realised I had it ;-)
It was as easy as tapping a button each time I wanted to set a new limit, so it wasn't really even tedious when the speed limits changed, as some people have suggested it might be. It was also easy to override, by stomping the throttle to the floor. It was also fun to watch the look of confusion on friends faces when they tried to speed in the car :p

This feature wouldn't be the sole determinant in a car purchase for me, but it would be part of my feature matrix.

  • My citroen c4 07 model has the speed limiter :) It's also for sale if you're interested. I'm in melbourne

  • Get a pushbike mate. Speed is usually limited by your fitness unless going downhill you are usually under the limit.

  • My mother has a one of these: http://www.parts-specs.nl/photos/0354072-Mercedes-Benz-CLC-1…
They are fairly cheap. They also have a speed limiter which you can set from 40Km/h to max speed.

What it does ? Set it to whatever speed you want to limit the car, press the foot on the pedal, it will not pass that speed. You can disable it from the accelerator pedal by pressing all the way down and then, further push the pedal to feel the "bump". That will cancel it.

  • My car has it, i just think its criminal to use it on an N54 :)

Cruise control is also good option, some cars will maintain the correct speed even up/down hills. I use it for school zones where there's a camera as my accelerator pedal is a tad sensitive and very easily might go up 3-4km/h by mistake.

  • To answer your original question, as many have not. All recent Peugeots have a speed limiter (which is NOT a cruise control but an additional feature, where a set speed cannot be exceeded). Yes, I use mine all the time. I can program several set speeds in the car, and quickly flick between them by using the cruise control/speed limiter stalk.

I use the cruise control on the open country highways (and, of course, it can be turned off manually at any time or by pressing the brake)

I use the speed limiter on busy highways and in suburban traffic (and, of course, it can be turned off manually at any time, and, of course if you floor the accelerator it will also respond - can't really see a situation where you'd need to do this if you think about your driving more than 2 seconds ahead you can turn it off anyway)

An extremely useful and fine-avoiding function.

Of course, since car speedos are consistently optimistic, I can set it at 104 Km/h indicated and still only be travelling at 100 Km/H true. When travelling down the busy Geelong road and using the speed-limiter, I pass most cars because the're staring at their speedos and sitting on 100 or so (indicated). Cruise control is impossible on a busy road.

    • Our pathfinder has the same feature, but it won't stop the car going faster down a hill.

I don't use it, it is annoying to reset each time the limit changes. I can regulate my speed fairly well without it. I do use cruise control regularly though.

  • Hyundai i40 has a speed limiter

    • 2 years to late Sandman

      • Maybe OP is still looking? We haven't heard back from him that he's no longer looking…
