Do Bpoint credit card payments count towards bonus points spending?

Hi all,

I am just trying to check if payments made through Bpoint payment portal on my council's website will count towards the minimum spend required for NAB Velocity Rewards premium card? Need to spend $1500 on it and conveniently my rates are due. This is the payment portal page https://www.bpoint.com.au/payments/townsville?BillerCode=889…

I understand that bpay payments don't usually count but I wasn't sure if this type of payment was processed as an actual credit purchase. They do charge a .5% credit card surcharge so I am thinking it is indeed a purchase?

Just wanted to check before I complete the payment. If it's not going to count then I will pay my rates another way and avoid the surcharge. Just hoping to knock the minimum spend over quickly with this 1 transaction.

Thanks,

David

  • The other payment I was hoping to make on another card was to put my electricity account in credit. This is the payment portal for it https://paybyweb.nab.com.au/SecureBillPayment/securebill/nab…

Would it also be counted as a purchase for the purpose of bonus points?

I don't want to appear rude, but why not use this link:

    • Because from the googling I did prior to posting this it seemed that people often got different and unreliable answers from calling the help line. Was just hoping for one of the knowledgable people on here with experience to be able to provide a quick yes or no answer. Trust most people on here a lot more than a tired call centre clerk on a Friday afternoon.

    • Yep and after calling the help line as you suggested, I am none the wiser. The lady was helpful and polite but she couldn't confirm if rates would be regarded as government charges or not and therefore not count. She was also unable to advise if bpoint payments counted a purchase.

    See under "Everyday purchases excluded"

No mention of exclusion for Bpoint or other portal type payments (including bpay)

As long as bank can charge a merchant fee, you should get your points.

As for Government charges, it does exclude ATO payments.

    • In your experience do council rates come under that government charges clause? Cheers for the info so far.

      • Fees and Charges relate to Bank fees and charges on your account, government charges would also be related to charges on your account. ( EG FID tax - long since gone).

        • Thanks that sounds pretty good then. Hoping someone on here has paid their rates in a similar manner and obtained points before. Need to spend $1500 and the rates notice is $1600ish. So works perfectly. Don't want to do it though if there is a risk they won't come through.
