Pricebeat Item @ OW, Now Price at MSY Has Gone up - Conspiracy?!

So last night our 5 yo router gives up the ghost. Decide it's time for an upgrade and looked at the Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000, $459 at OW. Didn't take much googling to find the same one at MSY for $249.

So I walk into OW to try and get a pricebeat, stock levels green across all the local stores and they put it through at $249, beating the price by $12.45 - ended up paying $236.55 for it which I thought I was really pleased with. (Yes I still have the receipt and triple checked it)

Went back online just now, curious to see if OW had adjusted their price, but found no movement on the OW website. Going onto the MSY website however, shows the same router that was going for $249 has now gone up to $359.

Coincidence… or not??

    coincidence.

  • Not so unusual. I bought this mouse from MSY 2 years ago for $15 and they now want $35.

    MSY change prices very frequently.
In your example, how could they even know that you did an officeworks price beat? Do you think Officeworks calls competitors and says "hey, put up your prices - that way we can all make more money, hehehehehe."

The most unbelievable part of that scenario is MSY answering the phone.

  • When OW price match they search the competitor's website to confirm the price and stock availability. There is no way MSY knows their low price had been beat. Also even if the price went up at MSY, OW will still beat the new higher price easier. Doesn't make sense that this is a conspiracy.
