Razer Blade Stealth - Importing Laptop from US

Hi Guys

The 'Razer Blade Stealth' has just started shipping from the Razer Store in the US. It looks like the perfect laptop for me and the wait for it to come to Australia is already unbearable.

Has anyone had any experience buying any Razer Blade laptops from the US? What sort of implications will I face in terms of extra taxes, warranty, power adapter incompatibilities etc?

Link to the laptop as follows: http://www.razerzone.com/store/razer-blade-stealth

Thanks for the help!

  • So the UHD 256GB model is US$1400 - AU$1976, plus GST = $2173.60 + Freight.

Can't find anything locally for that sorta money?

    • XPS 13" with 256GB, i7, 8GB ram - $2499

By the time you add freight to the Razer, and the concern to warranty of it, there likely to be the same sorta money

      • Thanks for the suggestion. The reason why I have settled on the Razer Blade Stealth is because of the future release of the Razer Core. The Core is a base station which houses a desktop GPU that supplies graphics to the Blade Stealth.

This way, the blade stealth can be an ultrabook for work when on the go and a gaming machine when at home at my desk.

Aside from alienware and the Asus implementations which I do not fancy, I do not know of any other similar configuration.

From what I can tell the Blade Stealth is my only option.

        • Biggest issue that is being reported in relation to the Core is the speed at which the interface runs on the laptop.
The reality is that while you have an external GPU you only still end up with laptop quality speeds from the GPU.

Until the update the speeds the connection can run at, the "experts" say you are simply better off getting a high end gaming laptop.

  • Razer's T&Cs state the warranty is only valid in the country where purchased so you wouldn't have any effective warranty in Australia. Combined with the shipping costs probably not a very effective way of doing things.

What did you plan on using the laptop for anyway?

    • Just browsing, word processing, remote desktopping when on the go. Gaming when at home (using the upcoming Razer Core).

At the moment I game on my PS4 so currently gaming isnt a huge deal but I would like the option to game in the future.

      • +1

Seems like it'd be better just to get an ultrabook and a gaming desktop, rather than a gimmicky eGPU configuration that's likely going to be discontinued 2 years down the line because its too troublesome for the manufacturer to deal with.

        • I guess it depends on Australian pricing for the Blade Stealth. If it is priced competitively with the XPS13 (Considered the best ultrabook by many) then I cant see any reason why I would personally take the Dell over the Razer.

Even if the eGPU doesn't end up being very appealing I will still have a best in class ultrabook and the option to game down the line if I want to if I go with the Razer. Dell eliminates gaming possibilities altogether.

As I suspected, since many are against the idea it's probably best to wait for a local release.

        • @jonomatic:
Just saw an article which may interest you, saying the blade stealth should launch in Australia by end of this month or in April. Core to be released in July but I assume it too will take time to be released in Aus.
I have been keeping an eye on the blade stealth, and think it looks like an awesome piece of kit for the price if the poor battery life doesn't matter too much to you. I've heard good things about the core as well, apparently functions far better than previous attempts, but yet to see a price… Interested to know if you ended up getting one or are still waiting?
