Playstation 3 Slim

Hi all

Long time Ozbargain user, but this is my first time posting something!

I'm wondering if anyone can help me find a good deal on a PS3 Slim, preferably the 120gb version. On Sunday I awoke to the Yellow Light of Death problem and it looks like my current PS3 is kaput :(

If anyone can help with some deals in the Melbourne area, it would be very much appreciated.

TIA

  • ecogamer could be a good start to get an idea, i think their list is a couple of months out of date now though

  • Thanks for the response Puyo. I had looked at that site after a Google search but as you say, it's unfortunately a little out of date now.

I guess I'm hoping for some feedback on some recent sightings in retailers in Melbourne if possible.

    Thanks!

  • They've been out less than a year haven't they? Warranty? Otherwise, I googled it and the 2nd last post on this page says that it can be fixed, some guy got it fixed in canberra for $80, might be somewhere near you that can do it:

  • How old is the machine? And roughly how much did you pay for it? As you can probably still get it fixed for free by Sony under other policies..

  • Sorry all, should have mentioned that it's an older 40GB machine, bought in December 2007. All that I've read on forums etc makes me believe that getting it repaired would likely be a temporary fix (e.g. it would probably break again in the next 6 months) so I think I'd prefer to throw my money at the newer version.

If I can get the new 120GB version for around $400 I think I'd just go with that…

    Cheers

    • You might still be able to argue that a machine of that price should be able to last more than two years. Statutory law would probably be on your side, i've heard of numerous people getting free repairs though this.

  • Thanks Swimmingtoad. I had thought about heading down this route but do you think having removed the warranty to replace the HDD would affect my chances of getting a free repair?

Also not sure if I want a protracted battle with Sony to get my free repair - I've dealt with Sony's "Customer Service" before and it wasn't pretty :) Maybe I was just unlucky that time round…

Probably not a brilliant deal, but Big W has it for $498 with Fifa09 or NFS Undercover until 24 March:

Maybe just take the ad into a competitor and ask what they can do.

  • I'm looking for one around $400 as well~~ please guide me~~

  • changing the hard drive doesnt void the warranty remixnet. they even tell you how to do it on the sony site. all you do is put the original one back in when you send it off so that if they give u a refurb u dont get a refurb with a 40gb and lose ur wateverGB u have in it.

    • i thought u were ment to take out the hdd when sending in ur ps3 for servicing
