Porting out my number error! I NEED HELP! (AMAYSIM and TELSTRA)

Hey guys

I was about to give up on trying to port my number of 5-10 years out from Amaysim.
I thought I would try one last thing and reach out here, to see if anybody else has had this issue and had it ported successfully.

So im trying to port my number from Amaysim to Telstra
My error is a mismatch in my DOB between the two carriers
however both carriers have the exact same information which I have confirmed with them
I have contacted both carriers and keep getting hand balled between the two
Amaysim says its a Telstra issue and Telstra says its Amaysim problem

They are really hard to talk to and none of the representatives seem to want to lift a finger

I was told that I have to refresh or update my information for Amaysim so I went to do that
i got told to email there support team with a date and time that they can call
I said they could call on the 18/1 and haven't had a phone call since
I tried to follow it up by calling amasyim so I could get some answers
I keep getting the same computer message "all our operators are busy and i should use the online chat" and it auto hangs up
ive called at different times during the day and get the same message

Anyway, has anyone had a similar problem and solved it!

Log a dispute with TIO (https://www.tio.com.au/) to see if they can help out with this issue.

Telstra online help and their call centres are terrible from my experiences. After calling up, I usually have to go into store a week or so later only to find out nothing eventuated from the call.

Just go into the Telstra store and see if they can fix it up for you.

  • Ive had this issue before, was trying to port from optus to telstra - went into telstra store, they did multiple "orders" to port my number, confirmed DOB were correct went from optus to telstra store for about 2 hours.

They ended up calling it a system error and couldn't port my number - so i FORCED telstra to give me a premium number, my new number i similar to this 0499177555

    • So did you just get a similar number to your old one?
sucks you had to wait that long!

Nope wasn't remotely similar - but i do prefer this one a lot more.

  • Cancel the porting out?

    • im trying to port it out tho?
      it keeps getting rejected

Go buy a $2 vodafone prepaid sim and try and port your number to that. If it works, the problem was Telstra (and they should be able to lodge a new order to port you over from vodafone), if it doesn't the problem is Amaysim. At least then you know who you need to be yelling at

Yeah, maybe they are trying to hold onto the premium number so they can let it expire and give it out to someone on their own network?

I think using the Vodafone method would put any uncertainties to rest.

I've found it amazing how competent Telstra's staff become when you use this:
    CEO Contact

Also his email should be something like [email protected] . Good luck!

Call them both at the same time and let them have argue it out

Call the TIO they will help sort it out for you. They give you a priority line to both companies and they have a certain amount of time to fix the issue.

yes i had a similar problem so i took them to tio and then they magically figured out how to sort it

For Porting if its Prepaid you need your name and DOB for post paid its name and Account Number.

Telstra are who you should be hounding, they are the receiving carrier. There are also steps that they should be taking to escalate this.

Is there any ruling to say you cant port every few months?
My daughter tried to port from Optus prepaid to Telstra today and telstra said as she had already ported her number 2 months ago from telstra she needs to wait till at least 3 months?
Sounded a bit strange to me

There is not a limit on porting numbers, the only thing that block a port is if there is another port in progress. This sounds like an issue with Telstra's systems or just some BS your being told.

ps. I work in telco not for Amaysim, I just forgot to untick my last post :)

A little off topic; but you should always check with the provider of any new numbers you get, in case the Telco exclusively owns it.

When we signed up with Optus, we needed a new number which they provided. Then a few years later when I started looking at changing to iiNet, we were told that Optus owns the number and so we are not allowed to port it out.

Not sure if any other providers do that, but it's worth checking beforehand.
