Is It Just Me or Is Australia Post Ridiculously Slow Now?

Just wondering if this is the same for everyone else, but if something is shipped on Monday I'm lucky to get it by the weekend now, even same state. I used to get stuff from the other side of Australia within the week. I rarely get packages from NSW —> QLD in less than 2 weeks, sometimes getting packages from China faster.

Is this Australia wide or am I now just in some kind of dead delivery zone? (being quite rural)

They have slowed down the service unless you pay additional for the "premium" service. For letters at any rate.

Hard to believe the is a speed below that of Glacially slow.

    • Yes, they have, officially, but the slow-down referred to by OP has been happening for several months. I suspect they figured if they did it then, we wouldn't notice any difference once they made it official. lol

I am talking mostly actual parcels/boxes, do they apply as well? Wouldn't surprise me if they just slowed everything

  • What is your Post Code?

Just thinking this as well. Put an order last Friday from COTD, shipped out Saturday. Approved on Monday, processed at Aus post facility since Tuesday and still haven't received anything. Usually get deliveries in 3 days.

    • I have had parcels get stuck in both the Granville and Chullora (both in Sydney) sorting facilities (and one in VIC that I can't remember the name of).

If you notice that your parcel repeatedly gets "processed" by the same facility, it means the sorting machine can't figure out which truck to put your parcel in.

I have been told by AustPost (take this with a liberal dash of disbelief) that:
      - the sorting facilities are completely un-manned therefore
      - if a parcel doesn't go onto a truck it goes back through the machine without investigating the problem
      - there is no part of their process that investigates errors on labels
      - it goes through the machine indefinitely until it works i.e. it doesn't get returned to sender after 5 tries
      - and various other excuses.

I better stop writing as I am starting to rant.

      • Now that you mention checking the tracking, I think mine are all actually the normal delivery speed if they have tracking, but if they don't then they are ridiculously slow..

        • Approved Monday, delivered today. Usually receive it one day after approval.

          Processed through Chullora on Tuesday.

        • And the CEO gets $5 mil. for this bullshit.

Unfortunately they have a virtual monopoly on this so what can you do…

They call it "progress". I am sure the service was quicker 100 years ago.

You mean it is quicker by horse and carriage?

      I have to agree.

I bought something from US, paid AUD$25 for postage, got it in exactly 7 days.

      • Yes, I honestly believe it was quicker by horse and cart.

Parcel from Melbourne to Hobart took 35 days over Christmas. Welcome to the future!

    • Service is always slow over Christmas, for obvious reasons.

      • +1

Parcel from UK and Germany to Hobart over the same Christmas: 10 days including customs.

I think this is not normal.

Even more reason to buy from China, it will almost take the same time as buying locally. So AustPost isn't the friend of Australian Retailers, prices higher and no real speed advantage

Between recent AusPost changes (started 4 Jan) and upcoming Ebay changes (starting 20 Feb), Ebay sellers are really going to be feeling the sting.

Just one month into 2016 and I have already received more complaints about slow shipping than in the whole of 2015. Between refunds and free replacements, I have already lost money.

Please Ebay shoppers, cut sellers some slack at the moment. Most will try to deal with your complaint. Resolving something when negative feedback has already been received is complicated.

    Here's some (hopefully useful) info:

    AusPost changes:
Standard letter: used to cost $0.70 up to $3.00 and used to take 1-4 days.
Standard letter: now costs $1.00 up to $$5.00 and now is supposed to take 3-6 days. I have been finding it mostly takes longer than that.
Priority letter: add a special $0.50 priority stamp, and it is now supposed to take 1-4 days.
Parcels: costs and delivery times have not changed. It's just hit and miss, sometimes you are lucky, sometimes not.

    Ebay changes starting 20 Feb:
Feedback scores won't matter any more. Sellers will be measured on just two things:
    1. A simplified defect rate based on the number of transactions cancelled due to seller error, and cases closed because seller could not resolve.
    2. A "more objective" late shipment rate based on … IF YOUR ITEM IS DELIVERED BY THE ESTIMATED DELIVERY DATE.

Ebay sellers are stuck between a rock and a hard place because Ebay has locked in 1-4 days as the standard delivery time and sellers cannot change it to 3-6 days. Also, sellers are expected to add an Express option, but sellers CANNOT add a Priority option. (I've tried. If it worked for you, please tell me how to do it.)

P.S. I sold 2 of the same item last week, one going to Australia, one to Sweden.

Postage for the Aust one was $2.00. Postage for the Swedish one was $2.75.

P.P.S. Moderators, please note my ebay name/email is nothing like by OzB name/email, so please don't think I am trying to advertise.

But the estimated delivery dates that ebay comes up with are often not realistic given the slowness of Aust Post.

      • Yep, that's my point.

    • Yeah I wouldn't like to be an eBay seller anymore. I used to sell a fair bit of stuff but it came to the point where I could sell something for $350 on ebay and have to pay fees and postage, or just sell it on gumtree within the day for $300 and not have to worry about posting/unhappy buyers

Aus post becomes more user unfriendly every 6 months… In 20 years it will be cheaper to drive the parcle to the buyer….

      I'd give it 5 years.

Already happening. I already self-deliver orders if they are close enough. Had one yesterday.

        • Thats when they message you "it was dammaged in transit or did not arrive" and launch PayPal dispute… Lol i hate those people

        • This, I can usually incorporate a delivery of a couple of orders within 300kms and do it myself faster and cheaper… If not doing it faster, having the ability to tell a customer, "Look, postage is $xyz, and it'll be there when Australia Post get to it. OR, if you aren't in a huge hurry, I can personally drop it off to you on this specific day, at no cost…"

Australia Post, helping foster better customer experience through apathy.

Hang about, that's an excellent slogan… I'm trademarking that to sell back to them :-D

  • The changes aren't supposed to affect parcels however I have had several deliveries via Australia Post since the change, all from places I have purchased from in the past and all of the deliveries have been slower by several days. I can now get something delivered from overseas quicker than I can get something delivered from across town. I live in metropolitan Sydney.

I still have 2015 nostalgia where I knew something sent within Sydney on Monday would arrive by Friday. Ahh the days…
