  • I can't even find the register button…

edit: looks like you just download the app and go from there

Signed up for this when it was advertised about 6 months ago. Never heard anything from Optus.

    • Not sure what happened there, previously all SIM's were sent in an ordinary mail (not blaming anyone as mistake could have happened at any point). Are you able to download the app and request one today?

      • Mobiles apparently require "NFC SWP"
["Near Field Comm's Single Wire Protocol"]… Right? :-/

Is "Cash by Optus" being funded (even in part)
by large mobile makers, ie, who win if folks
need to buy a new mobile to use Cash by Optus? ;-/

Does SIM or bracelet ("payment accessory") eliminate that requirement?

IF so, WHY NOT LET Optus customers buy & use that (ie,
INSTEAD of limiting access to only those whose mobile
        can run the app?!?)

Can one get/use the bracelet if mobile hasn't got NFC SWP?

Post a list of Mobiles that work with Cash by Optus,
including OLDER models & ones imported fr other markets.

Eg, does Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 (&/or 6.2)
        have what is needed?

        • All questions you asked are answered in the document below
          http://smb.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/Consumer/Assets/PDFs/Ca…

If you are using a NFC SWP compatible Android phone issued by Optus running standard operating system then you can use the NFC SWP functionality, you would just need an Cash By Optus SIM (i.e. NFC SIM) in order to use Cash by Optus.

Any other android phone (local or bought from overseas) as long as it's running standard operating system with version 4.0 (i.e. non rooter or custom ROM) work with a payment accessory.

          Hope this helps.

        • @Ace26:
First section shows how we SHOULD be able to access this service, saying that "any" Android 4.x phone should work with payment accessories, if I'm reading it correctly.

Most of our Android phones run later Android 4.x (eg 4.4.x)
but None of these can run the app… SO, we CAN'T ORDER the payment accessories.

          FIX THIS.

PS Perhaps TIO would be interested in an Offer that seems - in practice - to require purchase of hardware hardware BEFORE our current mobiles need to be replaced (eg, just to run the app, needed to Order a product required to workaround the restrictions for mobile phones?)

        • @IVI: Just send you an PM re this issue. Samsung Mega 5.8 and 6.3 dont have NFC SWP support, you should still be able to order a sticker or a band. Sent you details for our support team.

  • Do we need an accessory for it to work? Can't it work with the phone's inbuilt nfc ? (Samsung S6)
Downloaded the app, i need to choose the sim or a tag to stick on my phone.
Commbank's app work's with my phone's inbuilt nfc.

Also note that i am not able to either submit my details via the app, it's crashing - message from the app 'oops, we are trying to fix an issue and we will be back…'

It will work with Android NFC just fine :) using it on my Sony Z3, but you do need to get a SIM first

      • So, how to order a SIM, when app won't run on a phone/tab?

PS FAQ has a list of devices that are known to work,
        but your Z3 isn't listed there (yet…).

Funny, i just got the cash band (which is simply a band that you put their NFC card into) and am getting the same error message. Tried TWICE, and still the same. Sorry, you can come back but I won't.

    • Exactly what happened to me using the sticker - see my post below.

  • Virgin Mobile customers as well?

      Read the description again.

    • JeeNee customers?

I'm going to hold out. In another few months when they'll start sweating that their targets for this will be lower than expected. To attract more people, they'll bump it up to more than $10.

  • I signed up. Does what it says it will. Got my $10.

I don't see the point. Instead of having money in my bank account and using my card, Optus wants me to transfer it to their bank account and use my phone, but with a two day delay. Benefit to me is non-existent. They're going to have to offer something compelling to make me want to sign up and use this service because right now it seems completely useless.

i personally like to have a buffer between my credit/debit cards and services like google play.. i've been using cash by optus for google play and online stores. works fine. i dont have to worry about my kids buying refills on candy crush. lol for everything else i use my bank cards.

    • All "Pay Wave" transactions AREN'T created equally:

ING Direct says the one from Cash by Optus now
look like direct debits, so GOODBYE 2% cashbacks…!!!

Just use NAB, CBA, Coles(GE bank) or another bank app,
    1-They are Australian
2-They are safe, they take care of your money
    3-They are Banks
4-You do not have to transfer money to Optus account each time
5-They offer up to $100-150 for new services (posted here as I remember)
6-They offer small PayWave tag cards (handy if your phone dies)
6-You do not need a new sim
7-You do not need to be an Optus customer
8-You do not need to risk your personal private details (Optus is a Subsidiary of Singtel-Temasek owned by Government of Singapore)
    9-For $10?

    • I don't care who owns Optus (f mobile/I'net svc) or
MyNetFone (for VoIP), ie, when - eg, due to a "need
to compete" or just cause they're more efficient -
they offer VALUE for $$ that Telstra can't TOUCH.

(Hedge: We found Optus NBN too costly, compared to,
eg, DoDo… but later we found Activ8Me.net.au's
faster 50/20Mbps Unlimited NBN an option DoDo lacks)

If it's an Aussie co., they must comply with AU Laws
no matter who owns them, IMO.

What makes you think "you do not have to risk your
personal private details" when dealing with an Aussie
      co.?

      For example:

ING reportedly sends "Tell us if you're a Yank" eMails,
saying AU Law requires them to… if anyone fails to
complete their form about it, ING say they may report
the fact to USA's IRS (Tax Office), ie, for Aussie
customers, holding ING accounts in AU.

(What AU Law do ING rely on for this privacy breech?)

  • Installed the app and it says that my phone is not compatible with Cash by Optus. I was expecting this as the phone is rooted.

However, I can only click close, it does not give me an option to order the sticker. Confused???

  • If your phone is rooted or has a non certified rom then app won't work and you cant order the sticker or band.

    • None of our mobiles have been "rooted" nor has any got a non-certified ROM. They're just as they were from the box,
      when new.

You can be less negative here… Instead of listing all
the reasons why a mobile WON'T (of might not) work with
Cash by Optus, let's move back to my Q: What workaround(s)
do you have for us to try, ie, that just might work?

      Is "NFC SWP" necessary?

      • Not being negative at all, it's not possible for me to address your issue without knowing some specific information re your device/s.

To answer your question above "is NFC SWP necessary?"
Yes, if you want to use NFC SIM and your phone (You need a NFC SWP phone + NFC SIM for this to work)
No if you want to use a payment sticker or band (You need an unrooted android phone + Payment sticker or band)

Happy to guide you through the process and or trouble shoot if required, drop me a PM with your contact details and I will be more than happy to answer your questions.

        Hope this clarifies.

  • Got the sticker delivered for my iphone and tried to register. Twice now the lengthy registration process failed.

Not worth the effort for $10. I'm out.

    • Hey Optus [associate] send the message "upward" that this isn't as easy as it should be to get running.

Is there possibly something that Heritage has (or is) doing, that could be causing the issues here?
