Removalist - Contracted via Airtasker - Not Returning My Belongings . Advice Requested

EDIT: Fixed dates. Added that Airtasker have responded.

I used AirTasker to assign a removalist job. The date/time agreed upon was 6th Feb 11 am for 2 men & a truck

TL;DR : Took one carton of stuff , would not return it. Air Tasker support is not responding ( pinged them on Facebook and email ). Removalist wont answer my calls.

What should I do about this ? The police said they are limited in calling him on my behalf. Will going to a solicitor help ?

Lots of racial abuse from him (Standard stuff - ethnicity , food etc ). Threats of violence and damage to property. Says he is on his way to slash my face.

Shame it went so badly, we moved a few years ago and found a couple of guys off service seeking (which I had used once or twice), however they were amazing and did 120% of what we asked them to do.

In general we have had better experiences using people from places like that than we have had with big companies. The downside is if something does go wrong it can be tricky to rectify it!

    • It can be hit and miss at any place, we used service seeking last year for a garden cleanup and mow of our lawn. They were an hour late only stayed 4 hours and forgot the lawn mower then kept pestering us for a review and when they could come back, they had 5 positive reviews and my wife did not want to post a bad review because they looked rough and knew where we lived of course.

      • He told me it has been settled now? Everyone has their stuff back now?

        • Thanks MrLeE , I got my stuff back on Monday evening.

Airtasker responded well , they are processing my refund , I was able to leave a review and have been told that the worker's account has been suspended.

        • @grv: Glad to hear that. What an ordeal. :(

        • @grv:

Yes, AirTasker are across all channels. They have people dedicated to just searching the web seeing what's up.

Seems like it was fine when you contacted them.

    Update pls lol

  • I think the police will tell you this is not theft - this is a contractual dispute.

My father had a guest at his holiday apartment trash the place and punch holes in all the walls. Police wouldn't evict - called it a contractual dispute.

    • +1

The contract was to move the carton from one place to another. The person has cancelled the contract and withheld the item unlawfully and made malicious threats of grievous physical abuse.

The police are obliged to respond if you have proof. Take down the name of the duty officer. Things get done when there is accountability.

  • after you get your stuff get an AVO against him too..

    • Wouldn't that increase the risk of in flaming the already unpredictable situation?

We should rename this site gossipbargain

  • Just used my first AirTasker today. Wasn't too bad. $30 per hour for 2 hours give the house a quick clean. Well worth it.

    • An Ozbargainer will probably say you have spent $60 too much on cleaning which could have been saved if you kept the place tidy from the start!

      • +1

An OzBargainer would first consider the amount of time required to keep said place clean, project potential income loss as a consequence of lost time, and compare that to the proposition of hiring a cleaner.

        • Why would I spend an hour of my time cleaning and genuinely hating life when I can do something that I'm passionate about and get paid (slightly) more per hour?
As Tshow said, focus on maximise your income, and I say focus on maximising your income AND quality of life.

Also, the cleaner only came in to do the "hard" cleaning work… Scrubbing the shower/toilet/oven/stove etc. The basics are done as we go.

THIS IS A CONSPIRACY BY THE BIG REMOVALIST COMPANIES !!!

They are employing psycho crazies to advertise removalist jobs at really cheap rates.
Then the psycho crazy goes psycho crazy and makes the idea of saving money a nightmare, reinforcing the fact that the client should have paid top dollar to use the big companies in the first place.

True Story, I just made up.
