Car Dash Cam

Hi,

I can get a discount at JBHIFI so hoping to pick up a decent unit from them but not sure what to buy. Most exp model from JB is $249 which is all in budget. Any suggestions? Or should I just look elsewhere

tbh most of the jb hifi dashcams are just rebranding of cheap no name dashcams anyway

    HI,
Few quick notes form personal experience on dashcams.
Consider if you also want a rear camera. We had an accident where that would have been better to have.
Also consider getting one that uses capacitors instead of LiIon batteries.. LI batteries suffer in the heat behind the windscreen and our (cheaper) cams sometimes stop work after standing in the sun for a while and the battery of one now has died.

    Cheers

    • We brought a cheap one from target, and it started to spasmodically work, so took it apart found the battery had swollen up and essentially made the camera inoperable.

A118C Capacitor dashcam for ~AUD $72 delivered. We have two and are very happy.

    • how does it go for charging - looks like u use the car charger - how long does it usually take to charge and how long does it last

      • This is the capacitor version so it does not run on batteries.

The battery version however lasts for about 10 minutes. These cameras are designed to be constantly connected to a power source.

+1 to the A118/A118C for discreetness.

        • oh cool! Excuse the tech amateurness! haha

  • Mobius action cam for around $90-100AUD. You'll need to buy accessories though. Small, has no screen and unobtrusive. Fits right behind the rear view mirror. Also the mobius gets firmware updates unlike many of the the cheaper dash cams.

  • I have both the G1W and the A118. The A118 is significantly better in terms of discreetness and fits in behind your rear vision mirror. The G1W hangs down and creates a blind spot (if your mirror is relatively low - I have it installed on a Mazda 3). I also need to replace my G1W as the picture is jumpy and out of focus. I've had the A118 for a year and it's still going well (didn't spend the extra for the capacitor version). The picture is excellent.
I woundn't get a dashcam that hangs down below the rear vision mirror again.

    • thanks, looking into the A118C
