Started Getting Repeated Calls for Charity Donations on My Mobile for The First Time

These include the RSPCA and PCYC raffles and it turns out the calls are all legit.

Turns out one organisation is responsible for a lot of the calls (Insight Charity Fund Raising Services) so the fact the prefixes are all the same looked suspicious at first (02 9003 - ).

PCYC New South Wales
PCYC Queensland
RSPCA
Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation
Asthma Foundation Tasmania
Green Cross
Heart Research Institute
Kidz Wish
Souths Cares

Isn't the first rule of credit/debit cards that you never give details to a number that calls you? I didn't go through with it so maybe that isn't in fact the case how it works?

Add the numbers to your blocked list.

Or donate every time they call. You will never be lonely.

  • Add your number to the do not call register. Seems to have worked so far for me.
If after one month they continue to call, then you can report them.

'Charities' are exempt from Do Not Call register

    • Delete my comment - I'm wrrrrong. :)

  • Just tell them not to call you again.

I told them I was a Uni student and as much as I would love to donate I don't have the funds. The guy said "fair enough" and I haven't been called since.

  • Yeah apparently you can ask Insight not to ring you to get rid of a few charities in one hit. But the Do Not Call register apparently doesn't work for charities.

I might regret in the future when I'm feeling cashed up and lonely…

  • that company is perfectly safe to give your credit card details too as I have donated to them after I verified they were legit. They raise funds to help the RSPCA shut down puppy farms (where dogs are kept in tiny cages in their own filfth and never let out their entire life) so buy a few raffle tickets and help a good cause

Probably more $$$ would go to the charity, by dealing with them direct, rather through a (professional?) middleman.

      • yes if you want too that is a better idea, but they are selling raffle tickets and their staff cost wages. They achieve more by calling people up then waiting for them to come in and donate even after expenses. Sad but true.
