How Much Would You Pay for a Second-Hand MacBook Air?

Hi everyone, my friend has a Macbook Air that they bought new, used for 6 months, and have offered to sell it to me but asked me to choose my price based on 'general second hand prices'.

I've had a look on eBay but the second hand prices seem similar to new, from what I could see.

What is a fair price for a MacBook Air, 2015 model, 128gb, no retina display. Apple store lists the new price at A$1,399.00

thanks!

$500. The specs make it a piece of crap.

Just get one of those lenovo thinkpads. They're tough as nails, 6 hours battery, WAAAAY better specs and you only have to pay $700.

    • Can you please tell me model names?

Do a bit of customising until you're happy. Change the OS to Windows 10 Home to save $100 and use the coupon code "monkey" to save even more money. If you are a student, open an educational account (just need uni/school email address) and save a further 10-20%.

        • The Thinkpade 'Edge' series is not that tough.

The T, L and W series are what you'll want if you are after a 'tough-as-nails' business-grade laptop.

Then again, neither is the Macbook Air, it was built to be thin and stylish rather than to be durable.

Well i don't know why buy laptop because of style. Maybe girls that have money just to say i got Mac. Either way don't even think to give him more than 600. The new one is 1000e on ebay.

I would always go for some Lenovo like cDNA say.

Macs hold value pretty well… I would expect that to go for ~750-800. Especially considering how the prices have appreciated over the last two years (US $).

The specs of the 2015 model are practically the same as the current one (slightly newer processor etc). Same 12 hour battery life.

What current one? It was updated in 2015 and hasn't been updated since.

If it is only 6 months old and is the current model I personally wouldn't be willing to accept $750-800 from a $1399 purchase.

What is their reason for selling? I'd say $900 is a good price but that depends if it has any dents or marks. Maybe $1000.

Offer $850 and say you'll go to $900 maybe they can meet you in the middle.

      • It's true Apple products hold its value better than the rest.
I think it's because they have less iterations, so your product still look/feel new for years. Just like cars. Cars usually have facelift every 3-4 years, and total makeover in 7-8 years.

Having said that, if Apple do a total makeover, it will instantly make your old product old.
For example, if you have bought iPad 4, then it will be old when iPad Air launches.

if it's from a friend, why don't you just agree on the price and not base it on the current market value?
That's what friends are for, right? Just ask him how much he's willing to let it go =)

  • I bought mine June last year. I'd be happy to sell it for 950 if that was me.

  • I'd definitely give you $800 for it if it was in Perth and in good condition.
I might go a bit more but I think around there is reasonable.

    You'd have to pay me.
