consider it is a ute ie work car with amazing low km - logically would think either the odometer may have already done a round or engine has been changed. make sure the car has not been written off.

  • How much are they asking for it?

  • yeah $8000 is decent for such a low km car. But sometimes you need to be careful about these really old cars.
It's already 10 years old but only has a mileage of 19,000km. On average, a car for private use is driven 15,000km a year… (according to insurance companies)
I've heard that the odometer can be rolled back…

looked up for you on carsales valuation.high end $7500 on private sale ie good condition. Average ute would have done 200000km to 300000km. So ask on the phone if engine has been done or car been written off before looking.

Private sale has not warranty so hope you will get an expert for proper inspection.

Also how long is the registration? Green slip and registration would easily cost $1000. Look at the condition of the tyres - new tyres cost another $800.

Easy to buy but expensive to fix/repair.

    • Thanks alot for all that!

No tampering of engine or write off.
      Rego expires in a month.
      Tyres is excellent condition.

  • REVS check, and compare the engine number if possible (RH rear of engine block around the heater pipes - according to Google)

  • a car / engine is meant to be driven

if it sits idle for weeks/months then only does short journeys, that is the worst possible thing to do

lots of wear on a cold engine, lots of condensation in exhaust

lots of old and brittle plastics/rubbers/tyres/bushes

perhaps even flat spotted axles and other metal bits

personally, i would look for one that has had an easy life, lets say 80000k's, over this one

a car that has very very low km like this one, won't have had fluid changes at the right times. you may well have rust in the brake or fuel lines, in the cooling system, things may well be seized that would otherwise be regularly lubricated

    me- i wouldn't buy it

  • Thanks heaps guys.

This is the situation - owner rarely used car, had a work car he usually used (i think). Wants car sold as owner no longer able to drive a car due to permanent (and devastating) medical condition. I feel sorry for them.. they seem like a very nice and honest people (my impression).

    Asking price is $11, 500.

No tempering of odometer, engine or write off reported.

    Thanks again!

    • Wow that's a lot for a 10 year old car. You really need to realise that allthough it has low km's it dosen't have any warranty and a car doing so little driving it that time can actually be a bad thing. I personally think that what they are asking is way too much and some others here are on the mark around $8000 is a fair price

        WAY too much

    • can buy a convertible Merc CLK on that price.
