Dead Pioneer AVR & need help choosing replacement

The lightning storms over the weekend of 8 Jan. here in WA blew up a few of my electronics (even though they were plugged into a Belkin Pure AV board! I have contents insurance so have made a claim.

In addition to the amp, I also lost my blu-ray player, Netgear modem/router, Linksys Mediahub, original PS3, & clock radio.

Back to the amp. It's a Pioneer VSX-920 7.1

I'm trying to find something like it that isn't too expensive. I'm thinking that I might end up stuck not with a replacemnt of similar quality, but possibly only current value (I hope not).

I really want internet radio— I use that every day. Anything else is great (like BT & wifi). I'd like it at least as powerful as the Pioneer. I have front, rear, center, rear center, & sub.

If anyone knows of good resellers/source or any upcoming deals, I'm all ears. Especially appreciate any audiophiles chiming in! (puns intended- sorry)—

  • Check your insurance policy, they may give you a voucher for Good Guys or similar, or may want to replace stuff themselves (they have lots of contacts with warehouse type places, and may actually replace with the same item, or pick one they think is similar). Chances of you getting cash are pretty low.

Your insurance PDS will also say if you get like-for-like, insured value, or current (replacement) value (i.e. not what you'd get if you sold it but what it would cost to buy second-hand). Most policies will give you like-for-like, i.e. a replacement not a payout. Unless you've got less insurance coverage than the cost of what you lost! Check the specific categories for one on electrical items and storms, you may find a maximum value, in which case if you've lost more than that, they'll probably just give you cash.

  • wait until you get the amount cash/vouchers/items to know what you have to spend/where you have to spend

  • Thanks for the replies,

As far as the amp goes, even if I have to toss in some cash of my own, I still want what that Pioneer had.

Knowing that, any recommendations for quality sound at a reasonable cost (less than $1000)?

    Ta!
