[Poll] Gym Membership 2016, Reasonable Price?

Hi guys,

Due to inflation or whatnot, new memberships to gyms (let's say Anytime Fitness) seem to be increasing. …Or maybe they're just getting more greedy!

  • How much are you paying per month?
  • When, and where did you join?
  • What is a reasonable price in 2016?
  • Did you do anything (e.g. referrals) to get your membership fee down?
  • Anything else prospective members should know about, to lower the membership fee?

-inose (aka 'OZBargain Police' - I am not a police, nor do I represent OZBargain tho :( )

Edit:
Hey OZBargain, request for graphs! Yours truly

  • I joinded a gym at a higher weekly price as it included classes. I used to be a member at Snap Fitness and classes were extra but the weekly fee was cheap. I guess it just depends on what you use most

  • I always look at Gumtree for any gym membership transfers. Recently bought Re-Creation 12 month membership for $400. Works out to be $7.60 per week for 24/7 gym access

    • Could you kindly explain how gym membership transfers work?

  • I'm at goodlife gym, $14.95 a week, you have to ask them to lower it to that price though. $14.95 gives me access to all the goodlife gyms (some are 24 hrs and bigger) you can also ask them to give you a few months free if you refer a friend :)

  • I get a super cheap subsidized membership through the gym at my work. Pay $8/week.

  • Genesis does $12.50/wk for students includes all fitness classes no extra cost. Has a separate ladies room and dance studio too!! Going 24hrs soon. And when you opt out they'll ask you why you wanna leave and give you a free 30 day membership etc. If cost is a problem they'll do whatever to keep you there and make up a deal for you haha!! Also if you're a student there's no lock in contract and they can hold payments if you'll be away. It was my first time going into a gym was easy to leave due to lack of time on my behalf. Would highly recommend it :)
